Graduate Recognition Ceremony
Materials:
 One Pink Rose
 Graduate Certificates
o It is recommended that the certificate(s) be placed in frames to protect it
and give it a professional look.
o It is also recommended that a graduation stole be presented at this
ceremony (with the certificate) so that it can be worn on graduation day
with the sister’s gown.
 One Large Purple Pillar Candle
 One Pillar Candle Holder
 One Pink and Purple Wreath
 Five Pink Taper Principle Candles
 Five Taper Candle Holders
 One Glass Dish
 One Purple Table Cover
 Lighter or matches
Set Up:






Table set-up is the same as initiation ritual.
There should be five designated speakers (or less, only if a chapter does not
have five active members) for this ceremony. The speakers will stand on one
side of the table, facing the graduating sister(s) as they stand on the opposite
side.
The graduates will be lined up in order of initiation date.
The remaining sisters may stand around the room wherever they prefer.
The attire is all black, except for the graduates being recognized, who should
wear black pants and a letter shirt.
All present recite the Sigma Lambda Gamma Purpose.
Speaker 1:
We have come forth this evening to honor this woman/these
women on becoming graduate(s) of Sigma Lambda Gamma’s
(Chapter Name) chapter. Your time as an undergraduate member
has come to a close and you will soon embark on a journey to
being an alumna member. Your new role as an alumna is to
provide support for your own chapter and all others across the
nation. Also, we ask that you continue to uphold the five
principles in both your personal and professional lives.
Speaker 2:
Throughout your undergraduate years you have continually
exhibited the essence of Sigma Lambda Gamma’s five principles:
academics, community service, morals and ethics, cultural
awareness, and social interaction.
At this time we ask you to renew your life-long commitment to
Sigma Lambda Gamma.

One by one, the graduates will be asked to repeat the following phrase. After repeating
the phrase, each graduating member will be presented with a personalized graduation
certificate. It is recommended that the speaker presenting the certificate give each
graduate a hug and kiss on the cheek upon presentation.
Please repeat after me. “I, (Name), renew my love and dedication
to our beloved Sorority, Sigma Lambda Gamma. I promise to
continue upholding the principles in all that I do and all that I
am.”
After all graduates have renewed their commitment and been presented with a
certificate, continue on.
As your undergraduate chapter we are proud to present you with
this certificate of recognition. We recognize your valued
contributions to Sigma Lambda Gamma, to your community, and
to all women in higher education.
Speaker 3:
As an alumna member you have the ability to contribute a great
many things to the nation’s undergraduate chapters, including:
- Serving as chapter advisor
- Working with the chapter for recruiting new members
- Being a source of history
- Serving on the National Board of Directors
- Attending the National Biennial Convention, and
- Being a Regional Director for the region
Furthermore, as we, the (Chapter Name) chapter, say thank you
and congratulations, know that you are now a welcomed member
into Sigma Lambda Gamma’s alumna associations across the
nation. Wherever your future postgraduate or career plans may
take you, there is always a place for you in our sisterhood.
Speaker 4:
Graduation is a time to reflect on both the happenings of the past
and your aspirations for the future. As you pull a petal from the
rose, we ask that each graduating member reflect on 1) what
Sigma Lambda Gamma has given her as an undergraduate and 2)
her hopes for the future of this chapter. Upon concluding, please
place the petal in the bowl and say “hermanas por vida” or
“sisters for life”.
Allow time for each graduating member to make a statement.
Speaker 5:
Congratulations on achieving this milestone in your life. As a new
Sigma Lambda Gamma alumna, may you continue to empower
yourself and those around you. Above all else, remember that you
are truly a sister for life.

Hermanas por vida.
Ceremony concludes with clapping, hugs, kisses, and congratulations for the graduating
sister(s).
