2017 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – TACKLE PROGRAM Why does my player have to be present at Registration? Your player will be weighed and sized for equipment. This is required for his or her team placement, as well as to determine the gear which will be assigned at Suit-ups. We’re registered for Fall 2017. What’s next? Suit-Ups & Equipment Issue: Scheduled by team, and will be held on 6/10 & 6/11, with one make-up session on 8/5 at Inglemoor HS. Your coach will let you know your scheduled time. Plan your vacations accordingly. Summer Camp: Around the middle of April you will be notified of the IJF Annual Summer Camp. Tentative 2017 dates are July 24-27, the location is still TBD. The camp includes instruction in fundamentals and drills to help improve conditioning and performance, all conducted by the IHS Viking Coaches and Varsity players. IJF Coaches also participate. Sessions are held in the evenings from 5p-8p and registration includes a cool tee-shirt. Camp is “no-contact” and open to everyone ages 6-14. This is an excellent way to prep for the season, and especially good for new players. Practices & Jamborees: Practices begin on Monday, August 14th! Players may not have contact (tackle) until they have completed three practices and must complete 14 practices to participate in season games. Practice runs five (5) nights per week until school starts and three (3) nights per week once school begins. Again, plan your vacations accordingly. Practices typically run two hours, 6:00p-8:00p Families should anticipate TWO pre-season Jamborees on Saturdays, or maybe on a Sunday 8/26 or 8/27 and 9/2 – these also count as practices. Practices are subject to school field availability and the schedule may change during the season. Please always refer to our website http://www.inglemoorvikings.org for the up to date schedule. Season Schedules: Games are played at IHS and other GEJFA participating schools on Saturdays. The first games begin on Saturday, 9/9 for nine weeks. Teams in the play-offs may play up to 11/18. Equipment: IJF provides all required equipment with the exception of mouth guard, footwear, supplemental padding, athletic supporter and socks. Tethered mouth guards are required. All footwear must have molded cleats (not detachable) and should be designed for football to ensure proper ankle support (no soccer cleats). We did Concussion Training last year. Do we have to do it again? Washington State law (Zachary’s Law) requires that ALL players and their parents review concussion training on an annual basis. This training shall include the nature and risk of concussion and head injuries, including continuing to play after concussion or head injury and the signs and symptoms of concussion/brain injury. It is GEJFA’s policy that NO player shall participate in IJF until the training is complete. The training must be conducted jointly with a parent and their player. It is available online at http://www.inglemoorvikings.org. If not completed prior to registration, stations will be on-site and the training must be done at that time. There are no exceptions to this policy. How are players assigned to teams? Each player will compete with other players of comparable age and weight, by being assigned to a League level through an Age/Weight formula. It is the position of IJF that it is generally best for participants to play at the lowest level, without any significant weight loss, particularly which occurs in a short term. The decision to attain a certain playing weight and the responsibility of maintaining that weight belong to the player and the parent/guardian. Generally, all players should be below their maximum weight for the level for which they desire to play by the first day of practice. Each player’s weight will be checked at Suit-Ups prior to the first practice and before every game throughout the season. It is possible that a weight gain could move a player to another level. When there are sufficient numbers of participants for multiple teams at a level, players are assigned according to our Split Policy. I see there is a $60 per player Fundraising minimum. Do I have to pay this and when is it due? IJF will host Family Fun Day early in the season (dates are TBD. The event includes Team Pictures, a Silent Auction and a skills contest (Punt, Pass & Kick). There will also be “Spirit Gear” sold by IHS Football Boosters, a Bake Sale by Junior Cheer, and many fun activities for families and kids alike. Each player is responsible for raising a minimum of $60 in fund-raising per season. This is typically done through flat donations or sponsorships of the “Skills Contest”. You may choose to contribute the full amount if that is more convenient for your household. Silent Auction – Each team prepares Theme Baskets which are auctioned off during Family Fun Day. Now is a great time to start thinking of clever ideas for these great gifts. Remember: No alcohol – we are on school grounds. I want to Volunteer, but being a Coach is too much for me. What else can I do? There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with IJF! Talk to your Coach or any of the Board Members for details. Each family is asked to contribute a minimum of just three (3) hours of time during the season. Here are some ways YOU can help: REFEREE – Can be ages 17-70 and are PAID!! You will be trained, and on-field training during our Jamboree. We need at least THREE (3) to represent IJF. Talk to the IJF President! What is the IJF Refund policy? All refunds are subject to a $120 charge, up until the first Jamboree. After this, there are no refunds. If equipment has been issued, no refund will be disbursed until all gear has been turned in. There are no refunds for the Flag program as expenses already exceed income. The NSF check fee is $35. My player is interested in Flag Football. What should we know to get started? The IJF Flag program has been a huge success. Designed for players ages 6-8, it is a great start for kids not yet eligible for the tackle program. It is intended to give young players a chance to experience the benefits of organized team sports. It also provides a solid base of football knowledge to build on. The age and weight limits provide a safe, fair environment. Please see our Flag Football FAQs for more details. MORE QUESTIONS?
