In this exercise you have a choice of four imaginative responses based on
the short story The Necklace. Read through all the options and then choose
one. Look at the suggestions to help you.

Write a scene for the script
Imagine you have been asked to write an outline for a short film based
on the life of Mme Loisel. Write one of the scenes for the script.
Suggestions:

Describe the setting, time of day. (INT means interior, EXT
exterior)
Write the dialogue for at least two characters.
Set out your work as a script. Include the title, names of
characters, dialogue and directions.
Note the use of capital letters (upper case) for the scene and
names of the characters.

M LOISEL
Mathilde, darling, I have a surprise for you.
MME LOISEL
She quickly dries her eyes and says in a small voice

Look at this invitation. We have been invited to the ministry on Jan 18th.

Write an extra paragraph for the story
You could write about the response from Mme Loisel after
her friend has told her about the necklace being fake.

Use the same characters and make the response
believable.
Write in the same style of the story so that it feels it
belongs to the story.
Use appropriate tenses and spelling.
Write a diary entry
One of the main characters in the story looks back over the
events of his or her life.
You could choose your own example or use one of these:
• Write your entry for Mme Loisel after she has met her
friend again.
• Write a log for M Loisel detailing the money he has
earnt and repaid.
• Write the journal entry for Mme Forestier after she had
met her friend on the Champs-Elysses.
Include at least one three dimensional object with your
diary entry. It could be something that you think that
character would treasure because it has sentimental value.
Explain your reasons for including it.

For a diary entry you do not need to use formal
language.
You can express the emotions you feel as that character.
The object could be a photograph, a receipt or an article
of clothing.
Write at least half a page.
Compose a film trailer storyboard
Imagine you have been asked to write an outline for a
short film based on the life of Mme Loisel. Draw the
storyboard. Include at least six screens.

The storyboard should contain a quick sketch of what is
on the screen.
Compose a short description to accompany each sketch,
describing the sounds and any special effects.
