Announcements/Reminders: None Opening Activity: Listening Activity Lesson Structure: LISTENING ACTIVITY Time 15 minute Students will watch the interrogation scene between Batman and the Joker from the movie Batman: The Dark Knight in Spanish. They will have a copy of the dialogue with key words missing and will listen and fill in the blanks as they hear them. We will then correct the assignment allowing the students the opportunity to see their performance. 15 minutes INSTRUCTION This concept can be slightly confusing for students so it may take a while to explain to the class. Explain that when we say we like something in English it follows a specific pattern. Example: I like cheese. In this sentence “I” am the subject. However it is not the same in Spanish. In Spanish we say cheese pleases me. The subject is now the word cheese. This means we have to conjugate to like/please to the subject cheese. Gustar will only be used in two forms generally; Gusta and Gustan. Why? (Because it can please me or they can please me. The other forms are not used commonly. To do this in Spanish you need to think a little backwards. First ask who is liking (or BEING pleased) You will use an Indirect Object Pronoun (ME, Te, Le, Nos, Os, Les) Then choose the form of gustar. This will depend on what is pleasing. If it is singular or an infinitive it will be gusta. If it is plural than it will require gustan. It looks something like this: Indirect Object Pronoun Me TE Le Nos Os Les A Form of Gustar Item Liked Singular Noun Infinitive GUSTA GUSTAN Plural Noun Me gusta el libro Me gustan los libros Nos gusta comer Nos gusta la comida Nos gustan los postres Explain that there are other verbs that work exactly the same way as gustar. A few of these are: Encantar, Importar and Interesar. Use a few examples. Me interesa el arte No me interesan los libros No me importa (ALWAYS A USEFUL ONE) This particular chapter of the book, is set up as a review and wants students to write about their daily routine. We will look at the text book to see how to do the activity we want to do today. On page 10 of the textbokok there is a review of the movie: El Señor de los Anillos. We will look at this as a guide for the activity. Students will read the reviews from teens in Venezuela. They will then chose a movie that they like or don’t like. Students should have different movies or at least a variety of reviews. This is the chance for students to show their opinion and use the language in meaningful content. The purpose of the activity will be to share their viewpoint. ACTIVITY Each student will pick a movie they like or do not like. They will then write a review of that movie on the sheet provided them. They can use dictionaries and other classmates as resources for this activity. 50 Minutes The will be required to: -Write a minimum of 10 sentences -Include Gustar, Encantar and Interesar at least once each. - Use at least 8 adjectives (These may include those found in the purple box on page 10) -Include 1 of the phrases from the box entitled “¿RECUERDAS?” SHARE/ORAL PRACTICE 10 minutes .Following the write-up students will move around and share their movie reviews with other students (OUT LOUD AND IN SPANISH) *All assignments are modified as needed to meet each student’s individual limitations and/or abilities. Homework: None Assessment: The movie review will be collected for a grade. Students must meet the requirements set out on the sheet itself for the necessary points.
