Since then we’ve added product development as well as consumer packaging into cartons and pouches. PacMoore Process Technologies Our second location in Mooresville, Indiana was built to satisfy the customer need for more volume in blending, packaging, re-packaging and sifting. PacMoore has also been able to add more technical capabilities such as spray drying and extrusion. PacMoore Innovation Lab Built in Gridley Illinois in 2015, the Innovation Lab houses our newest technical capability of product development for extrusion. Led by Certified Food Scientist Jon Baner, the possibilities we can provide for our customers in extrusion are endless. PacMoore Uganda In Uganda PacMoore has employed hundreds of people with fair wages on an amaranth farm. Amaranth is an ancient grain which has been growing in popularity across the globe. This product is unique because of its high protein content and because it contains all 9 essential amino acids. Through our work in Uganda, we seek to build communities, transform lives and feed the world through sustainable jobs. Thanks to this project, families have solid roofs on their homes and their children are going to school. EXTRUSION Innovation Emphasis On June 22, 2015 the PacMoore Innovation Lab in Gridley, IL was opened. This site was designed with our customers in mind – to offer product development support by utilizing our Wenger TX-57 twin screw pilot extruder and PacMoore’s own Jon Baner – our Senior Technical Manager, a Certified Food Scientist, and a guru in the field of extrusion. Key equipment breakdown: • • • Classification equipment Fluid bed dryer/cooler 100 to 250 pounds per hour capacity Production Mindset Our full scale Coperion 120 mm twin screw extruder has been installed and operating at our Mooresville facility since December 2016. The Gridley extrusion pilot facility provides an entry point for customers to develop and validate products before they move to the next step of full scale production. Key equipment breakdown: • • • • • Preconditioner Conveyor dryer Classification equipment Metal detection and magnets 2,000 to 3,000 pounds per hour capacity SPRAY DRYING Full Scale Our GEA designed full scale spray dryer can process a wide variety of product types without ignoring efficiency and cost effectiveness. We will use the liquid blend you send us or that we can create for you, feeding it into the system using either a rotary atomizer or a high-pressure nozzle system. A primary cyclone collects and discharges powder that is passed over a sifter and magnet before packaging. Our spray dryer has a nominal water evaporative capacity of up to 3,000 pounds per hour with a 400°F inlet temperature that can be raised up to 500°F. After completion, our CIP system and trained operators lead the charge in thoroughly cleaning the system for the next production in line. Key equipment breakdown: • Agitated liquid storage tank – 9,000 gallons • Reaction liquid blending tanks – 900 gallons • Heat exchanger • Breddo liquefier • 2 stage high pressure homogenizer • VFD rotary atomizer • CIP system Small Scale For product development projects, PacMoore also offers its GEA (FSD™) 4.0 pilot spray dryer. The system has a nominal water evaporative capacity of approximately 50 pounds per hour making it easy to cost-effectively validate products before moving them into large runs on our full-scale system. Key equipment breakdown: • Bi-fluid spray nozzle (various sizes available) • Fluid bed for one-step agglomeration CONSUMER PACKAGING Our vertical and horizontal form, fill and seal systems (VFFS & HFFS) deliver accurate filling for a variety of powders or particulates such as grains, pasta, nuts, or candy by utilizing augers, cup fillers, and combination scales. Flexible pouches are formed in-line with a variety of optional features including gussets, zippers, and tear notches. Taking it a step further, PacMoore’s cartoners allow us the ability to pack pouches or direct fill powders into pre-printed cartons. Types of Consumer Packaging PacMoore Can Form and Fill: • • • Vertical Form, Fill & Seal (VFFS) Pouches Horizontal Form, Fill & Seal (HFFS) Pouches Cartons – fill with product directly or insert a pouch BLENDING Our blending system designs are born from years of experience. Engineered for speed and precision, our industrial mixing equipment ensures homogeneous finished blends and the ultimate in food safety. Plow Blending As a true industry point of differentiation, PacMoore operates 4 full-scale industrial size plow blenders. The unique action created by the movement and geometry of these specialized blenders produces a thorough, fully dispersed intermingling of ingredients. An additional option is the use of high-speed chopper blades that enhance mixing by controlling particle size while also providing the ability to introduce and disperse fats, oils, and liquids. The result is homogeneous ingredient blending and tremendous consistency. Typical blend times are only one to five minutes. Ribbon Blending If you’re looking for conventional versatility, PacMoore also operates 3 full-scale industrial size ribbon blenders that provide counter-directional flow while continuously mixing the ingredients throughout the vessel. The inside ribbon moves materials toward the ends of the blender, while the outside ribbon moves material toward the center discharge. The result is a prize-winning production run. Due to a more gentle and fluid motion and agitation, typical blend times run between 10 to 20 minutes. Pilot Blending If you are in need of product development assistance, we also offer pilot blenders (both plow and ribbon) in a stand-alone pilot lab for test runs and cost effective validation before you scale up to our full-size toll blending equipment.
