Day 1 - CurrClick

Map Work
Geography lessons at this level are tied to history. You learn about a person or even in history
and you color and label a map about where the event took place. I have provided maps to use
with your studies. They should do their best, most careful work on these maps, following the
directions provided in the lesson plans. Many of the maps are based on images in the History
of US books, so they should use those for reference.
You will definitely want to have either a world map or globe on hand so they can see the “big
picture.” Just having a map or globe out where they can look at it daily will increase their
geography skills.
Research Skills
ple
file
There are plenty of opportunities for further research in this curriculum. Being able to find out
more about a topic is a very important skill in this age of “If it’s on the internet, it must be
true!” I have designed some notebook pages for your child to use to do their own research.
Sa
m
You can choose to have your child use reference books for their research, or child – friendly
internet search engines such as:
www.askkids.com
www.kid.yahoo.com
http://kidfriendlysearch.com/
Learning good research skills are very important – be sure to teach them to look for specific
information and put that information into their own words.
