& LAKE PARSIPPANY PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION, NEWS VIEWS http://www.Lake-Parsippany.org/index.php/contact-us VICE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Welcome to 2016 at Lake Parsippany JANUARY 2016 This is our 83rd season. If you are receiving this complimentary copy, it means that you can be a member of the association. I grew up on the lake and it has always been a place to get together and enjoy the day swimming, fishing or boating. My family made many friends at the lake and we all still enjoy the times we get together for an event at the lake. The area has changed dramatically over the years but we are proud of our past and we try to maintain some of that same feel today. I hope that you take the time to see all the great things we have to offer you and your family as a member of one of the oldest lake associations in the area. BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED The board is in need of committed people that have a vision of what the lake can be. In accordance with the Bylaws the following positions are open each year. Thanks, Barbara Allu LPPOA News and Views Advertising LIFEGUARDS NEEDED FOR 2016 SUMMER SEASON BEAUTIFUL LAKE, BEAUTIFUL LAWNS Very soon the weather will warm and the trees and lawns will turn green with the arrival of spring. In order to keep our lake from also turning green, we each need to be aware of the use of lawn fertilizers and the phosphorous content. Fertilizer must be PHOSPHOROUS FREE, and the bag should show a phosphorous content of “0%.” The phosphorous in fertilizer washes into the lake and feeds aquatic plants such as algae and weeds. Make sure that your landscaper is using PHOSPHOROUS FREE fertilizers. DO NOT rake leaves and other debris into the lake or storm drains. This is illegal, and can damage our lake water quality. IS THE WATER SAFE AND CLEAN? Yes! The lake water is inspected by an independent, state-licensed lab each week during the season. We are proud to have the cleanest water in the area. We spend more than $30,000 per year to keep it that way and to prevent overgrowth of algae and other aquatic plants. Please contact Michael Fabricante at [email protected] for additional information. McKenzie Price Interested in being a lifeguard? NOW is the time to get certified Summer is just around the corner, with beach parties, swim lessons, cupcake day, sandcastle contest, etc. Now is the time for anyone interested in joining the LPPOA lifeguard staff to get certified. All applicants must have certification in Lifeguard Training, Community First Aid and Safety, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Waterfront Lifeguard. To check on course schedule, call your local YMCA or the American Red Cross. To obtain a lifeguard application, or if you have any questions; please contact Mrs. Thore at 973-585-7314 or McKenzie Price at [email protected] or 973-941-8215. 2 NEWS VIEWS EXCLUSIVE TO LPPOA MEMBERS ONLY – BEACH RENTALS A unique and beautiful setting for your private event—Drewes Beach is available for rent by LPPOA Members only. FISHING CLUB SAILING CLUB Winnie Marone Ralph Rosamilia The fishing club is getting ready for their 2016 season with our annual trout stocking on April 2, at 10am at the bait shop ramp. Kids will have a chance to help net some fish and place them in the lake. Don’t forget your camera for some great shots. Come early and stop in the bait shop for coffee or hot cocoa and donuts while waiting for the fish to arrive. You can also at that time join the club, buy one of our new “golf” towels or some chances, sign up for the Opening Day contest or just see what we are all about. LEARN TO SAIL IT’S FUN Sailing gets people outdoors and gives them an understanding and respect for the environment. After a stressful day at school or work, sailing is a wonderful release for kids and adults alike. You gain independence and a sense of accomplishment. Sailing opens your mind to new experiences, gives you a feeling of success, and feeds your selfconfidence. You will also make and keep new friends. Learning to sail is fun! That’s what brings people back to the sport day after day. There’s always something new to see, learn, and experience whenever you set sail. AFTER THE STOCKING THE LAKE WILL BE CLOSED TO FISHING UNTIL APRIL 9, AT 8am WHEN OPENING DAY TROUT CONTEST BEGINS. The contest costs $1 to enter and runs until 5pm. Weigh-in is at the bait shop with the largest trout taking the trophy. The fishing club towels will be selling for $10 which fisher persons, sports people and athletes alike will be able to use for hands or brows. We have 4 or 5 meetings during the fishing season usually on the second Friday at 7pm at the bait shop. We discuss the past and future contests and any great catches reported. Pictures are always appreciated as we can hang them on the club wall or put them in the News & Views. We hold at least one contest per month. LEARN TO SAIL PROGRAM Sailing class features visual aids, hands-on instruction, and principals you will put into practice. You will meet other members who share your interest in sailing plus our staff of 20 to help you overcome the perplexities of learning too much too soon. A boat is helpful but not necessary. PARENTS Let’s not watch from the shoreline. Join with your kids and share their fun and experiences. Little or no experience is preferred. You just might create a lifelong passion. REQUIREMENTS One must be 11 years old as of May 1, have a current LPPOA photo ID, and a desire to learn. The cut-off date for signing up for the class is Saturday, June 4. The Lake Patrol volunteers tour the lake at various times throughout each month to ensure only current members are using the property and to explain the benefits of membership to nonmembers. The time commitment for each volunteer includes two tours, each lasting about an hour, of the lake each month, while paired with another member. If you would like to help or want to recommend a member for the Lake Patrol, sign up at badge sales. THE SAILOR’S HAT AS THE CROW FLIES Direct line between two points.
