Page 2 IHOC NETWORK NEWS Vet of the month..... Darnell graduated the program a few years ago. He recently moved back to the area and living with his sister in Camden. If you remember him, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet (RICK FUMO NICE...and that's really nice!!). He has been here a few weeks and already has a great job lined up, he started on Monday 2/27. His new employer jumped on him right away, they know a diamond in the rough when they see one. Darnell is 58 with a big family around here. His brother in law is a minister in a church in Lawnside near the Dambly House. Darnell was raised in Camden and his family was the first black family to move to North Camden. He put up with much racial abuse in first grade. His Dad is Camden famous. He was the first Sergeant in the Camden Sheriffs office and was a community leader too. His family had civil rights leader and right hand man to Martin Luther King, Ralph Abernathy, Sr. over to their house one night for dinner. Darnell's mom and dad asked him where he would like to go to dinner, and he replied, "I'd really prefer a home cooked meal." Through his Dad, Darnell met Muhammad Ali and Bobby Kennedy. Darnell has led a very interesting life. Not without sorrow though, he has lost a son and a grandson in the past five years, but nothing can deter Darnell from being positive about life. It's people like Darnell who make all of us who are involved with IHOC feel so good. Darnell is a usual at Mentor Night (not on 3/1 though, he has orientation at his new job) but after that he'll be there most Wednesday's....join us!! $1,000,000.00 in one hundred dollar bills weighs 22 pounds. We should would like a couple of ounces from you to help support our program and people like Darnell and the wonderful men currently in the program. Can you help us?
