~ News and Notes ~ February 12th, 2010 “Bear Fruit That Will Last” But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 What is an optical illusion? It’s a trick of the eye to see something not quite as it appears! In chapel this week, Mr. Wunderlich gave each of the students a paper with an optical illusion. The Bible reading for the chapel service focused on the transfiguration of Jesus, when Elijah and Moses appeared on the mountain with Jesus. During the transfiguration of Jesus, his disciples got to see the full glory of Jesus, which was no optical illusion! One week remains for current families to re-enroll their children (1st through 8th grades) and take advantage of a $25 discount per student on registration fees for next school year. In order to guarantee your child’s spot for the next school year, it is very important that families fill out the re-enrollment forms. Remember that these forms need to be filled out and returned by the close of the day on February 19th and have the registration fee(s) paid by April 30th to receive the discount of $25 per child on their registration fee. Unfortunately, there will be no exceptions. After February 19th, the registration fee will go back to the regular charge of $150 per child. Contact the school office for forms or for more details. Donations are still being accepted for the upcoming Dinner Auction, themed “Springtime in Paris”. Donation forms and ticket reservation forms are both available on the table in the narthex. All school families are encouraged to donate to the Dinner Auction with their time, their donations, or their presence at the event – your help makes this evening a success! Parents of students in K – 6th grade, please remember that February 26th is the deadline for the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. Students must turn in their record sheets to their teachers by 3:00 pm of that day in order to receive their Six Flags tickets later in the spring. www.imlutheran.org www.fastdir.com/immanuelwashington Next Sunday, February 21st, is when community families have a chance to “Experience Immanuel” at our informal open house. Doors are open from 1:00 – 3:00 pm to give families the opportunity to tour the school, visit with classroom teachers, talk with the principal, and learn more about the many items that ILS has to offer. We need your help with recommendations and positive referrals – invite those you know to stop by for a visit! Through our recent box tops drive, we have already brought in just over 4,000 box tops, totaling $400 for ILS! Thanks to everyone who has brought in Box Tops for our school. We encourage you to continue to bring these in as the money raised from Box Tops directly benefits our students! Can we reach 6,000 box tops by last week? With your help we can! Mark your calendars now for Wednesday, March 10th as we celebrate Grandparents Day at ILS! Several activities will be planned as we show our gratitude to our grandparents and as they see how much they are appreciated and loved! An early reminder – The Primary Choir (1st through 4th grades) will sing in both worship services next Sunday, February 21st. I thought perhaps an early reminder would be beneficial to some families. In January, only 7 singers came to the early service. Perhaps you could give some thought to attending the early service this month if your schedule is flexible. Remember – the date is next Sunday, February 21st. Hope to see many of you there! ~ Miss Schultz Congratulations to the 7th / 8th basketball team! The boys recently “brought home” the consolation trophy from this weekend’s ILS tournament – well done, guys! If you have not already paid your February tuition remember to have it in by the close of school on Tuesday, February 16th to avoid a late fee. Tryouts for the speaking parts and solos in the lower grade musical, "Arkeology", will be held the last week of February. Tryout parts are available from their classroom teachers. We are also in need of some animal costumes for the musical. If you have a costume for a cat, wolf, crocodile, sheep or lizard, please let Mrs. Kaaz know as soon as possible. Thanks! We continue to collect money for the families that have been affected by the earthquake in Haiti. This will be a collaboration of efforts between the Sunday School classes at Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta and the students at ILS!
