The Three Rs: Routines, Rituals and Rhythm.

“Pleasure is a gift of destiny that reveals its
value in the present, while suffering is a
source of insight whose significance will
become evident in the future.”
Rudolf Steiner
Welcome to 2015 and another year filled with
informative and enlivening parent information
sessions.
The focus for this semester is on Children’s Health:
developing a deeper understanding of the illness
process and how to work preventatively in the home.
When working with the teachers of the first Waldorf
School, Rudolf Steiner aimed to establish a teaching
method that was to be called education as
preventative medicine. Through the use of artistic
work, rhythm and activities which work with
individual constitutions, Steiner Education strives to
bring children into balance.
“The experience of pain and suffering can enrich
human lives or point to new developmental
possibilities. Because different illness affect different
parts and processes of the human body and produce
different experiences for the individual soul-spiritual
being occupying that body, it makes sense to reflect
on the specific meaning and purpose of different types
of illness.”
A Guide to Child’s Health
Dr Michaela Glockler,
The Three Rs:
Routines, Rituals and Rhythm.
“The body’s ability to self-regulate and adapt is closely
linked to the coordination and interaction of the
chronological rhythms that make life possible. In early
childhood, cultivating daily rhythms is especially
important because the infant's ability to regulate
rhythmic functions is still undeveloped and needs
support and stimulation”.
A Guide to Child’s Health
Dr Michaela Glockler,
At this talk, Rowena will introduce the fundamentals
of her book, The Three Rs. The Three Rs’ is a very
practical resource designed for busy parents of
children aged 2 to 12 years. It offers easy to apply tips
and strategies on how to organise your family life by
using routines, rituals and rhythm – especially helpful
at those demanding times such as getting ready in the
morning, after school, homework time, meal times
and bed time.
Whatever a family’s make up, children thrive within a
stable environment. By following a few simple steps,
you can create a calmer, more orderly daily life for
your family, while enjoying your own unique brand of
togetherness and shared values. All children can, and
will, benefit from routines, rituals and rhythm.

Transformation and Convalescence
with Childhood Illness
“In the young child there is a tremendous
transformative force toward individualisation.
Common childhood diseases can be revelations or
gestures of an accelerated renewal in the organism
and the illnesses may often be accompanied by a
warmth reaction such as fever.”
Blessed By Fever,
Wiep de Vries, R.N.
As parents we have an important role in supporting
our children’s journey through child development
which includes childhood illnesses.
Working consciously with childhood illness and fevers
leads us to an understanding of how our children are
taking up their willing, feeling and thinking and how
individual this is for each child.
In this workshop, Melanie will explore the pictures of
the incarnating child and the role illness and
childhood fever plays in this. This will include practical
ways to support your child through fever and
developing an understanding of the transformative
gift of convalescence.
