THE LATIN PATRIARCHATE OF JERUSALEM
The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (LPJ) was restored in 1847, and since then is promoting the best
interests of the local communities it serves. Today, the Patriarchal Diocese oversees about 90,000
faithful in four countries, Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan and Cyprus, covering a rich tapestry
of cultures, languages, religions and traditions. Serving all with special emphasis on the support and
care of indigenous Holy Land Christians remains the enduring mission of the Mother Church, the Latin
Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
It is the LPJ goal that the family is the fundamental building block of the local community and of society
at large. As a result, the Church takes a holistic approach in its work and assistance. While starting
with the children and youth who are the youngest group in the society; LPJ builds outward to serve the
immediate parents, the surrounding community and ultimately the society as a whole.
INTRODUCTION
Founded in 1923, nearly a hundred years ago, the Latin Patriarchate Printing Press is a non profit
iniciative. It has developed and transformed itself to meet the rising demand for the quantity and
quality of written materials issued by the Patriarchate and the community. The Printing Press produces
invitations, official documents of the Patriarchate schools, Diocesan bulletins and monthly newsletters
and all kind of publication needs for the comunity. However, over the years, with the increased demand
for printed publications, equipment and machines, the Printing Press offer a great potential for creating
new jobs for the Christian community, by expanding its premises and scope.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
The Latin Patriarchate Printings Press actually provides job opportunities for eight workers and with
in a shortage of publishing capacity. The building is too small to cope with the increasing demand for
published information. The proposal seeks to enlarge the facilities and create another eight jobs for
the Christian community through enlarging the facilities. It will transform the Printing Press in a income
generating initiative and in order to do so it will build a new expansion and remodel the existing one
in order to create a suitable and comfortable environment for the workers and allow them to work
properly.
