UIL Academic Team takes Second
On Feb. 11, CMS competed in our annual
academic UIL competition. The students
worked super hard and did a fantastic job
bringing home the 2nd place trophy.
Thank you to all of the parents for your ongoing
support and to the students for a job well
done. A big shout out to the teachers who
coached in the events: Ms. Adams, Mrs. Acosta,
Mrs. Cashon, Mr. Colvin, Mrs. Fowler, Mrs. Langer,
Mrs. Traynor, and Mrs. Wilson. Also, to our
administration who supports us 110 percent.
We hope that the 8th graders will continue with academic UIL in high school
and we look forward to seeing our current 7th graders compete again next
year (it will be held at Dawson).

CMS Solo and Ensemble Contest 2017
After months of practicing band students competed in the Solo and Ensemble
Contest on Feb. 3. This contest provides individual performers (soloists) and
small groups of performers (ensembles) with an opportunity to perform for a
qualified adjudicator. The adjudicator provides written comments and
suggestions for improvement along with assigning an overall rating to the
performance. The rating system is on a scale of first division to fifth division with
first division being the highest rating possible.

Students participate in five
rounds of competition and
they earn points for
questions they answer
correctly in each
round. The students with
the highest totals qualify for
Nationals in Atlanta,
Georgia. Ten students
competed Feb. 21 in the
History Bee Regional Finals
at Perry Middle School in
Carrollton. Of those 10, six
qualified for Nationals. We
are so proud of all our competitors.

Viva Las Dragons
Saturday, Sept. 9
Plans for the Carroll Education Foundation's annual benefit is well underway.
Mark your calendar for Viva Las Dragons on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at the
Hilton Southlake. As CEF partners with the school board and administrators to
identify needs across your 11 campuses, major sponsors and donors now have
the opportunity to direct their donation directly to a specific need requested
by CISD.

Elise Cerami Memorial Fund Fundraiser
Run4Elise is a 5K-1Mile Fundraiser supporting the Elise Cerami Memorial Fund.
The Swim4Elise Foundation is a nonprofit promoting water safety through
swimming scholarships. $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded on race
day. North Texas swimmers, grades 6th through 12th (including Dragon
swimmers who are on NTN, LAC or other USA Swimming clubs) are eligible for
swim camp and college scholarships.
