Physical Development
There is a lot of development that occurs during the 1st year of life. Specifically for physical
development the infant learns to hold their head up, roll over, sit on their own, crawl, stand up
and then possibly walk. However, without the aid of a parent/caregiver these developments
may not occur. Read the scenario below and complete the tasks that follow.
SCENARIO:
Sarah gave birth to her first child, John, last month. It has been a very exciting time for
her and her husband Chad, being able to bring John home from the hospital and
sharing him with their many friends and family that have visited. Now that things are
starting to calm down Sarah is concerned that she will not know what to do to help
John meet his developmental milestones. She knows that you have had a child
development class and has come to you for assistant her in knowing how to aid in
John’s physical development.
1) Describe an activity that Sarah and Sam can do with John to help him learn to hold his head
up. Let her also know at what age they should expect this to happen.
