dates back to 1959 in designing, manufacturing and supplying levelling and vibration isolation
products for the Industrial markets, and in recent years our product range and sales have
expanded into the construction industry, where we provide high performance acoustic and
vibration isolation systems for cinemas, concert halls, gyms, and complete buildings. Due to our
growth in sales, continuous internal investment and significant government backed R&D funding
we are excited to announce that we require a R,D&T Engineer/ Experimental Officer to be a key
member of the Development team in driving our ideas and infrastructure forward to achieve future
growth.

Job Purpose
To set-up and undertake a variety of tests related to both materials and products at Farrat as a
member of the development team. This role will suit a results orientated mechanically minded
hands-on person with a keen eye for detail who enjoys working as part of a team.
Specific Responsibilities
• Setup and operate servo-hydraulic test machines and have a good appreciation and
understanding of the parameters and safe use of the machines.
• Testing of materials and products to be related to both R&D and Quality functions.
• Contribute to the development, testing, construction and modification of equipment for
specific projects.
• Set-up and monitor standard tests to specified procedures / parameters.
• Responsible for recording and storing results, both manual and automatically generated
results.
• Contribute to compiling / updating technical information and documentation records of
equipment and processes carried out.
• To participate in team discussions.
• To maintain a clean and safe working laboratory.
• Comply with H&S procedures affecting self and others.
• Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably
requested.

Essential Criteria
•
Hold at least an MSc/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
•
5 years relevant experience
•
Good mechanical assembly skills
•
Working knowledge of Matlab, FEA and control system software
•
Knowledge of polymers, vibrations theory and vibration testing
•
Knowledge of setting up and performing static and dynamic tests
•
Knowledge of testing elastomers / plastics
•
Knowledge of control systems and hydraulics
•
Good IT literacy skills (Microsoft Word & Excel)
•
Good communication & interpersonal skills
•
Ability to prioritise own work to meet deadlines
•
Ability to think logically and formulate plans to solve problems
•
Willing to gain experience and learn new skills and techniques & knowledge
•
Willingness to work in a team as well as using own initiative
•
Meticulous with a high level of attention to detail
Desirable
• Experience of materials testing, product testing, automotive component testing, running a
laboratory
• Experience of real-world projects and applications
• Knowledge of materials testing techniques and associated equipment
• High level of computer literacy, particularly with excel
• Full, clean driving license and or otherwise and valid passport/visa to meet the mobility
requirements
