Nurse Aide Nurse Aide - NURA1001 & NURA1060 Supplies Textbook is needed on the FIRST day of class. These items are not included in the course fee and are the responsibility of the student to provide. Full uniforms are to be worn in the clinical area. •Textbook (purchase from HCSA Bookstore) •White scrubs and clean athletic shoes •Watch with a second hand or a digital watch capable of counting seconds •Stethoscope and bloodpressure cuff •Gait Belt The Nurse Aide program prepares students to achieve a level of knowledge, skills and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. Topics include resident’s rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety. Emphasis is on the effective interaction with members of the health care team. Clinicals include a basic type of health professions work-based instruction that helps students synthesize new knowledge, apply previous knowledge, or gain experience managing the workflow. Close or direct supervision is provided by the instructor in a clinical setting. Prerequisites • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age •Must present at Registration: Valid photo identification card and Social Security card • Proof of required immunizations must be verified before student will be allowed to register. Immunizations include Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (TDAP), Measles (MMR), PPD Skin Test (TB Test), Varicella, Hepatitis B Series and Flu Shot. • A background check must be completed prior to acceptance into the course. Students are responsible for the payment of their background check which will be done through the approved Howard College vendor. The profile information you input will be sent directly to Howard College upon completion. Verification of the satisfactory result must be received within 5 days prior to the first class day. If an applicant does not pass the background check, they are not eligible to be accepted into the course. Successful completion of a background check does not guarantee licensure or employment after graduation. • Drug screen required prior to acceptance into the course. If an applicant does not pass the drug screen, they are not eligible to be accepted into the course. • Physical Requirements: Ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects and people. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach, lift, carry, pull, push, climb, kneel, walk and stand for an extended time. Nurse Aid Competency Evaluation Service (NACES) Students who successfully complete the Nurse Aide course are eligible to apply to take the national certification examination scheduled by NACES. If class is canceled by the college - 100%. For a course meeting fewer than three times no refunds except prior to first scheduled class meeting. For a course meeting three or more times, after the first class meeting and prior to the second - 70%. None thereafter. Class Cancellation - The Continuing Education/Workforce Training Department reserves the right to cancel any course in which there is not sufficient enrollment. Certificate of Completion - Upon completion of approved courses, a Certificate of Completion with the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) total will be given to students who successfully complete a course. A CEU is equal to ten hours of classroom attendance. Satisfactory completion will be determined by attendance and performance as assessed by the instructor. Certificates of Completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete any workforce training-community education course. Transcripts - Transcripts serve as official validation of successful completion of WT/CE courses.
