21. A proclamation is a public announcement. After the French and Indian War, settlers moved to the
west and build homes on the land that the British won from the French. The American Indians
were afraid of the settlers because they thought the settlers would destroy their way of life. The
American Indians tried to scare the settlers away by attacking them and destroying their property.
To stop the attacks and protect the settlers, the British passed the The Proclamation of 1763 and
gave the American Indians a lot of land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Settlers were not allowed to move into those lands. The fighting stopped between the settlers and the Indians.!
