Measure Yourself in nanometers
Scientists measure incredibly small things like atoms and
molecules in units called nanometers. A nanometer equals
one billionth of a meter. A penny is 20,000,000 nanometers
wide. How big are you in nanometers?
WHAT TO DO
1
Measure your body in nanometers with the nanoruler on page 2 and page 3.
Nanometers
How big are your feet?
How big are your ears?
How thick are your fingernails?
How thick is a strand of hair?
How wide is your thumb?
D ID Y OU K NOW ?
• A cupcake is 76,200,000 nanometers tall.
• Tiny toe hairs (each 200 nanometers wide) let geckos hang from walls
or the ceiling by just one toe.
