The Outstanding Achievement Award Artists - Bud Edmondson and Paul Murray
It is MasterWorks’ 10th Anniversary and time to recognize two of its founders and continued
supporters, Paul Murray and Bud Edmondson, with Outstanding Achievement Awards. Paul
representing PSNM and Bud NMWS met with Barbara Lohbeck in 1998 to plan a collaborative
quality art show and named it MasterWorks.
Bud Edmondson
A native New Mexican, Bud Edmondson has won particular acclaim for his paintings depicting the
southwest. Attending the Art Center School, LA, and working in Chicago for 30 years as a
commercial illustrator, and owning his own studio, Bud acquired a deep respect for drawing and
painting on location and teaching. His favorite medium is watercolor, which combines
draftsmanship and spontaneity. He has taken top awards in watercolor and pastel, including the
New Mexico State Fair, Pastel and Watercolor Society local and national shows (Signature
Member of both), and MasterWorks (miniature and large divisions). He has been featured in
American Artist Magazine, Pastel Journal, and Focus Magazine.
Paul has served as the Miniatures Division Judge in ’05 and taken top awards in both the miniature
and larger scale MasterWorks divisions in the past 10 years, including People’s Choice. He has
taken top awards in the MASF International Miniatures Show in Florida. An annual favorite of the
Pastel Journal, Paul has recently placed in the Top 100 for 07 and 08. He has been recognized in
Arts for the Parks in 02, 04, 05, and 06. In addition to the Pastel Journal, he has been featured in
American Artist, Artist Magazine, International Artist Magazine (and Book). Paul was invited to
show in the Albuquerque Museum of Art’s annual Miniature Show, including the inaugural
showing of large works. He is a Signature Member of both the New Mexico and National
affiliates.

Barbara Lohbeck wins Bravos Award
A Bravos Award goes to Barbara Lohbeck for the 2008 Outstanding Arts
Volunteer. Barbara is the Founder and Coordinator of MasterWorks of New
Mexico, a month-long juried art show held annually at EXPO New Mexico. This
all-volunteer collaboration brings together the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the
New Mexico Watercolor Society, the Rio Grande Art Association and Miniature
Arts Bardean. This event is a 12-month labor of love for Barbara, whose vision and
tireless devotion ensures that the exhibit maintains its high quality standards in the
works shown and the workshops presented. Barbara currently serves as Vice Chair
of the Albuquerque City Public Arts Board, and as Chair of the Board for Art in the
Schools. She was organizer and chairman of the Book Illustrators Guild of New
Mexico (BIG), which annually exhibited published book illustrations by over 40
New Mexico artists, with month-long events. Former owner of the Bardean Gallery
and an educator, Barbara also served as judge for fine arts shows, and collaborated
on programs for teachers through the APS Arts Resource Center and classes for
children at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History.
Winners of the 2008 Arts Alliance Bravos Awards will be honored at the 24th Annual Bravos Awards
banquet on April 26 at the Embassy Suites Hotel beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets to Bravos are $75 each with
$40 of that being tax deductible. For reservations call the Arts Alliance at 505-268-1920. Proceeds from the
event’s silent auction benefit the Arts Alliance, which provides programs and services, advocacy and
recognition for Albuquerque’s five major arts disciplines. The Arts Alliance also serves as a resource for
arts information through referral services and its website www.abqarts.org.
