USF Physical Plant Recycling Program Updated November 2013 Beginnings • Program initiated in 1990 • Physical Plant’s program is limited to Tampa campus academic and administrative buildings • Continuously expanding recycling efforts Paper Recycling • Currently recycling mixed paper Office paper, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, paperbacks • PPD has distributed about 2,400 office-size recycling containers • Large 64 Gallon recycling containers centrally located on most floors • Employees are responsible to transfer paper to nearest 64 gallon container where PPD will pick up • Additional bins are available from PPD Call 4-2845 to create work order Mixed Recyclables • Currently recycling plastics, glass, and aluminum • PPD has distributed about 400 mixed recycling bins to common areas such as lobbies, vending areas, lounges Blue, half-round shape • Physical Plant employees check bins periodically and empty as needed Other Recyclables • Bulk recycling station within Physical Plant compound For Physical Plant use only • • • • • Yard debris and tree limbs Fluorescent bulbs and fixture ballasts Electronic equipment Mixed metals (furniture, shelving, etc.) Concrete and construction waste Community Recycling Station • Located on USF Sycamore Drive • Accepts paper, plastic, glass, aluminum • Operated in partnership with the City of Tampa • Available to individuals who live on and off campus where no recycling pickup is available • Operates at no cost to USF City handles glass, plastic & aluminum Vendors remove newspapers, magazines, cardboard & paper Management and Resources • Recycling employees include: Vehicle operators Custodians (handle recycle materials inside buildings) • Physical Plant operates two dedicated trucks to pickup and transport recyclables • On-campus pickup routes are run daily Trends and Statistics • Since inception (about 20 years ago), USF has recycled over 6,800 tons of paper recyclables • Revenues generated are used to fund the recycle program • Recyclables for FY 2012/2013 Mixed Paper Plastic, Glass, & Aluminum Metals Landscape & Const.
