Authentic Ragtime Music here in Corte Madera on Saturday, January 30 at the Community Center! It’s FREE! Doors open at 6:30 pm. First 250 people will get in. World-famous ragtime piano player, premier vocalist, vintage hand-painted glass slides, and a silent movie!! In our continuing celebration of Corte Madera’s 100th Birthday, a special evening of sound, song and cinema will give us a unique, firsthand experience of how people "way back when" experienced live entertainment. Join us at the Corte Madera Community Center on Saturday, January 30th. Doors open at 6:30 pm, the show begins at 7:30pm. The first 250 people will be admitted. Adults only, please. The Centennial Committee is hosting this free, onetime-only, fun-filled event bringing together Bob Gonzalez, Corte Madera’s own resident ragtime music aficionado; prominent ragtime pianist, Frederick Hodges; premier vocalist, Sean Sharp; and a funny-bone-tickling silent comedy to make it a night you’ll long remember. Before households had radios and phonographs, new songs were introduced by hiring “song pluggers” to thrill the silent movie crowds during reel changes with performances of new tunes coordinated with projected illustrations on the screen. Glass slides were painstakingly hand-painted by artisans requiring many hours of detailed work. These illustrated song slides are on loan to us for this performance only. What an opportunity to experience entertainment as it was when Corte Madera was born! Our Corte Madera Lions Club will sell drinks; the popcorn is free. IT'S RAGTIME! AN EVENING OF SONGS, SLIDES & A SILENT MOVIE
