SPANISH TRIP
On Thursday 7th April, 17 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 jetted off to Madrid for
a four day trip. When we arrived, we walked to the Plaza Mayor (Main Square) and
met our guide for a walking tour of the city which allowed us to see lots of the main
sights and gain a better understand the city’s history and culture.
On Friday, we went for a tour of
the Las Ventas bullring. Our
guide explained what takes
place in the bullring and the
cultural reasons behind it. We all
appreciated being told why it
happens because it is often
difficult to understand. Shortly
after our tour, we visited the
beautiful El Retiro park where we
enjoyed the sunshine and did

afternoon, we visited an art museum
called El Prado which had some
paintings by famous Spanish artists
such as Goya. After a busy day, we
enjoyed a lovely meal at the Hard
Rock Café.

they are found to be using
them in lesson or in the
corridors, they will be taken
away and the appropriate
course of action taken. Please
also note that they should not
be telephoning home asking to
be collected.
If they are
feeling poorly they need to ask
permission to attend the
medical room where they will
be seen.
Finally, on the Sunday, we enjoyed a day of
shopping in the Puerta de Sol area. The girls in
particular really enjoyed this! After another tapas lunch, we went to a traditional
market called San Miguel which had lots of lovely stalls selling various types of
food.
The trip was an unforgettable experience and we wish we could have stayed there
forever! We would like to say a really big thank you to Mr Thorpe, Mrs Reilly and Mr
Dawson & Mrs Dawson for keeping us all safe and for making the trip so amazing.

YEAR 8 “TRASHION”
In thirty minutes, five teams of Year 8 students produced “TRASHION” from a large box of newspaper
and a handful of carrier bags.
Small teams of students pushed their understanding of shape and form, conquered their fear of the
‘what if’ and fought the demons of ‘I can’t’ to produce an outstanding array of enviable outfits.
Their outcomes were amazing, the sculpted outfits of pleated,
scrunched and folded paper and plastic were a real credit to
them.
An awesome lesson for the last day of term.
Well done Year 8!

BOOK CORNER
‘Flood Tide’
‘Flood Tide’ is a fantastic book that
has many good reviews and a really
intriguing storyline. This is number
14 of the ‘Dirk Pit’ series. In this
book, the main character Dirk Pit is
back with his companions trying to
stop an evil gang masterminded by
a secretive villain who is trying to
divert the course of the Mississippi
river. He is doing this to increase
the profits from his illegal
immigration company whilst having a gang of ruthless
killers following his every step.
This is a brilliant storyline and Clive Cussler has
unparalleled skill in writing. During the story, Pit has
many narrow escapes and plenty of nerve-wracking
action scenes, whilst using his witty comebacks and
trusty handgun to save the day!
Overall, I would rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 as it is
an incredible story with plenty of action and awesome
characters.
