TRIUMPH OF THE
CROSS
(September 14th)
Generation
after
generation
passes.
And in the midst of
this passing, the Cross
of Christ remains.
Through the Cross,
God
continuously
proclaims to the
world the infinite love
which no created evil
is able to overcome. Yes, the Cross
remains, so that in it the world,
indeed every human person, may
find the way of salvation. For it is
by this Cross that the world is
saved! (Pope John Paul II)

Altar Servers
Because I am in Lourdes until this
Saturday (12th September) with the
Diocesan Pilgrimage I have just written a
short piece for you before departure last
Monday. Be assured I have remembered
all of you and our parish community at
the Grotto.
Those who became Associate Members
of the Pilgrimage last Sunday by making
donations for the sick pilgrims will be
especially remembered at the Masses
offered in Lourdes by the Pilgrimage.
The ‘Blue Sheets’ with your names on
them will be left at the Grotto so that all
your intentions will be prayed for.
There was a fantastic response to THE
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP this year
with €4,310 being collected in our
church. Because of the great generosity
of so many of you, seven sick pilgrims
from our parish and nearly two hundred
from all over the diocese have enjoyed a
wonderful time in Lourdes as you read
this little piece right now. On behalf of
all of them, many thanks. They are
remembering you at Our Lady’ Shrine.
Have a good week ahead and try to think
of bringing a few extra euros with you to
Mass next Sunday for the Annual
CROSSCARE Collection.
Training for new altar
servers will take place at
the end of September if
your child would like to be
an Altar server, please
contact the parish office or a member of the parish
team. The child must be in third class or higher.
We also need volunteers to help with this group,
please contact a member of the
parish team or the Altar Server
Co-Ordinator Christine Woods if
you are interested.
Gardeners,
Landscapers,
Garden Designers
If you love gardening or have
experience of garden design and landscaping
please contact the parish office. We have one or
two projects in the parish we need help with.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK
Q.
A.
Is there some special Rosary associated with the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows?
Yes, there is a special Rosary of seven decades which mediate on the seven sorrows
of Mary’s life. These are the flight into Egypt; the prophecy of Simeon about the
rejection of her Son and the sword of sorrow which would pierce her own heart; the
three days loss of Jesus; meeting Jesus on the way to Calvary; the crucifixion;
receiving the dead body of Jesus into her arms; and laying the body of Jesus in the
tomb. An old prayer that I love: “O Mother of Sorrows, we sympathise with you in your
sorrows, please help us in ours.”
(Fr. Silvester O’Flynn, OFM Cap)
