the transfer in and out of students. Any
requests for a specific student placement
(which needs to be in writing by June 15)
will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
If you are moving, please call Mrs. Farkas
and let her know as this information is so
helpful in our planning.

Why Use School Cash Online?
Convenient Make secure payments 24/7
from the comfort of your home.
Easy To Use Online shopping with credit
card, eCheck, or pre-pay your myWallet.
Safe Your child won't be carrying cash or
checks to and from school.
Saves Time Manage your school expenses
and view payment history in one place.
I encourage all parents/caregivers to give
this a try because starting this September
ALL field trips will be on-line.
Recycle-Reread
We all know that kids can never have too
much to read. A Recycle-Reread program
is a great way to get more books to read!
Details:
•
•
•
•
•
Parents and students are
encouraged to search through
their bookshelves at home and to
take out any books they are no
longer reading.
Students can bring these books to
school on Wednesday, June 5th.
Books must be in good condition
and grade appropriate. For
example, students in grade four
would be expected to bring in
reading materials at about that
level.
Students will bring their books to
the book exchange tables in the
school foyer (across from the
front desk) during their scheduled
class block. The number of books
per student will be recorded on
their class list by a parent
volunteer.
For each book a student brings to
school for the Recycle-Reread
campaign, they will be given one
book of their choice in exchange
on Thursday, June 6th. Students
with large numbers of books are
encouraged to share with friends
•
•
or classmates who might not have
books to exchange.
Books will be displayed on
Thursday, June 6th. Not all
popular titles/authors will be put
out at one time, thus ensuring that
classes who come to the exchange
later in the day will still have plenty
to choose from.
Classes will have an opportunity to
visit the book exchange and pick
books of their choice on Thursday,
June 6th.
I will need parent volunteers to help run the
program. If you can give us a hand sorting
books or manning the exchange tables,
please give me a call at (250) 766-2104
or email [email protected]. In
addition, if you have books that you would
like to donate (as opposed to exchange),
you can send them directly to the school
library.
Thank you!

SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR 2013-2014
The Transportation Department is finalizing the lists of eligible riders for school bus
transportation in September 2013.
Step 1: (application for transportation services)
All non-transitioning students who were issued bus passes during the 2012-2013 school
year should have received confirmation of seat assignment. (If so, move to Step 2; if
not please apply on line immediately) Before June 30th, the transportation office will
attempt to confirm online applications received for students who are eligible riders.
Parents and guardians of eligible students will receive confirmation by e-mail, phone, or
letter.
Step 2:
Parents of riders who receive confirmation of seat assignment must make arrangements
for the $112.00 Student Transportation Charge online, or at their local school prior to
June 30th to guarantee a seat in September. In cases of financial hardship, application
for subsidy shall be through your school Principal. (After June 30th, seats not confirmed
through arrangements made for the Student Transportation Charge are released and reassigned to courtesy riders.)
NOTE: Early registration and payment of at least
the 1st installment of the Student Transportation
charge by June 30th will result in a discount of at
least $12 per child.
All confirmed riders who have made arrangements for the $112 Student Transportation
Charge should refer to the Transportation Website after August 30th, where you will find
the most current information as well as bus stop locations and estimated pick-up and
drop-off times. Bus passes will also be distributed through your local school starting
August 27th. Local schools will also have bus stop locations posted for riders with
passes.
Please note that seats for courtesy riders may not be confirmed until all eligible riders
have been accommodated in September. Parents may need to make other
arrangements for the transportation of their children beginning on Sept. 3th until the
number of courtesy seats can be confirmed, seats assigned, the Student Transportation
Charge accounted for, and bus passes printed and distributed.
Students must be registered riders with bus passes to ride a school bus.
For more information about school bus transportation, please visit our website at
http://www.sd23.bc.ca/ProgramsServices/SchoolBus/Pages/default.aspx
SEPTEMBER 2013
SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR 2013-2014
Parents, guardians, and students are reminded that students must be registered riders
with bus passes in order to ride the school bus. Friends and clients of afterschool care
are not eligible for school bus service at any time during the year unless they are
registered riders. Alternate forms of transportation need to be arranged for after school
social plans and daycare arrangements. In cases of financial hardship, application for
subsidy shall be through your school Principal. This is a good time to review the safety
rules for bus riders. These rules are posted on the transportation website at:
http://www.sd23.bc.ca/ProgramsServices/SchoolBus/Safety/Pages/default.aspx
Online applications (https://ereg.sd23.bc.ca/transportation/) for courtesy riders
submitted will be confirmed this month on a space available basis by our transportation
office. The number of courtesy seats will depend on the number of seats remaining on
each route after eligible riders have been accommodated. Priority is given to students
based on the age and the distance between home and school within the catchment
area.
Due to the volume of applications for courtesy rides, it may not be possible to contact
each applicant individually. If you have not had a courtesy application confirmed by
October 15, it may mean that there are no additional seats available. However, if you
believe that there is space still available on a school bus passing through your
neighbourhood, please contact Transportation at (250)870-5151. Phone lines are open
between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Please note that courtesy seats are subject to cancellation at a week’s notice should
seats be needed for additional eligible riders.
