Warm-up:
Warm –Up: List all the possible factors of the following two numbers.
1.) 12
Section 10.5 – Factoring Quadratic Trinomial Leading Coefficient of 1
Today’s Goal – To factor a Quadratic Trinomial as a product of two linear binomials. Today we will focus on quadratic trinomials where the leading coefficient is 1.

2.) 18
Factoring Steps:
1. Think – what are factors of “c” that add up to “b”?
2. Write (x + 1st factor)(x + 2nd factor).
Example: Factor the quadratic trinomial: General Form of a Quadratic Trinomial: _________________________
Let’s go backwards and see if we can find a pattern:
Simplify by FOIL: (x + 5)(x + 3) Simplify by FOIL: (x 3)(x + 2) How could you check to see if your factors are correct?
Practice Problems – Factor each quadratic trinomial.

Difference of Two Squares – These problems do not have an “x” term, so b=0.
Factoring Completely – First try to take out a GCF, then factoring the quadratic trinomial that is left in the ( ).
