Concord Light A newsletter for Concord residents, from your community-owned utility September/October 2014 Do you use life support equipment? Grant helps fund efficient new streetlights If you or someone in your home relies on life support equipment powered by electricity, please let us know. We will The grant will help cover costs associated with upgrading the obsolete sodium lighting in the Downtown Concord business districts with new, LED decorative lights. This will include Monument Square and parts of Main Street, Walden Street and Lexington Road. In total, CMLP will replace 45 lights to achieve an expected energy reduction of about 40%. include you on Concord Light’s confidential critical health need list. During a power outage, we will attempt to prioritize service restoration to those on the critical health need list. However, you should always have your own emergency plan in place, including a minimum of 24 hours of backup power, and a plan to move to another location if necessary. For details or to get on the critical health need list, call Carole Hilton at 978-318-3158 or email [email protected]. The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources has awarded CMLP an energy efficiency grant that includes $40,000 for new streetlights. We’re saving energy one step at a time CMLP has employed dozens of new energy-saving strategies in recent months, and we hope these examples inspire you to find ways to save energy, too: • Installed a timer on the hot/cold water dispenser in our lunchroom to turn it off after hours. Previously, the dispenser had used as much energy as a 90-watt bulb during each overnight hour. A timer on the coffee maker makes sure it is off at night, too. • Unplugged the refrigeration mechanism on two water fountains. • Made changes so that 50% of the computers at Concord Light now go into an energy-saving deep sleep around midnight, after they’ve been backed up and scanned for viruses. Quicktip CMLP’s automatic Make life easier with sign up, and your payment option. This saves the equivalent of the power burned by a 73-watt light bulb left on for 6,550 hours per year, or 39 weeks straight. • Placed stickers to remind employees to turn off lights when leaving a room, and put a sign in the Public Meeting room to remind occupants to use only those lights that are necessary. • Turn off computer monitors at the end of the day. • • Unplugged a mini fridge in the Public Meeting room when it is not needed for an event. Two other mini fridges have been decommissioned. 109868 Middleborough:Middlebrough April 2005 10/4/10 1:25 PM Page 2 DDIDR IDRIEIRER CECETCTC OTO TROR O YRYRYY Did Did Did Did you you you you know… know… know… know… Whales Whales Whales Whales are are are are teaching teaching teaching teaching us us us us about about about about wind wind wind wind power? power? power? power?
