On Transfer Day (Wednesday 6 July) children should arrive at school as normal and will make their
way to their new classroom, which they will be shown tomorrow. The only exception is our current
EYFS children. Please bring your child to their current EYFS classroom and they will be registered by
their teacher. Teachers will then take the children to their new Year 1 class and will introduce them to
their new Year 1 teacher and stay with the class until they are settled in. Children will stay in their
new Year 1 classroom for the day and adults should collect children from the Year 1 doors at home
time. Once all the children have been seen out to their parents/carers, the Year 1 teachers will be
‘Learning for Life, Succeeding Together’
available for a quick chat should you wish to introduce yourself. During this day the children will have
the opportunity to learn about the new and exciting activities they will experience during the following
year.
As always, if you have any concerns regarding your child’s education, please contact the class
teacher in the first instance.
Staffing news – At the end of term we have a number of staff who are leaving Downsbrook for
pastures new. The impact of the Age of Transfer will continue to be felt at Downsbrook for a few
years, as we reduce our pupil numbers, as our 5-form entry year groups depart the school. This is
why the staff leaving this year is higher than usual.
Mrs Brown – after 3 years Mrs Brown is leaving at the end of term to take up a new teaching post. We
are very grateful to her for all her hard work, especially with the arts and the Worthing Children’s
Parade. We wish her the very best for her future.
Mrs Walton – after 4 years Mrs Walton is leaving at the end of term to take up a new teaching post.
We are very grateful to her for the work she has done with RE and the drama club which she has
invested a lot of time in. We wish her the very best for her future.
Mrs Lewis – we are very grateful to Mrs Lewis for her help and support during this year as we
admitted our first cohort of early years children. We wish her the very best for her future.
Mr Squire – after 2 years Mr Squire is moving on to a new teaching post. We are very grateful for his
work in Year 5 and especially with the drama club which he has supported and organised very well.
We wish him the very best for her future.
Mrs Smythe – after 2 years Mrs Smythe is moving on and we would like to thank her for her support
and wish her the very best for her future.
Mrs Goodwin – although Mrs Goodwin has only been with us a short time supporting Maths within
Year 5 & 6 we would like to thank her for her support and hard work and wish her the very best for her
future.
Miss Haydon
Mrs Remedios
Mrs Vince
Mr Kerr
Mr Whyte
Mr Attfield
Mrs Cobden
The teaching assistants above have supported the school during their time with us and we are very
grateful for their hard work. We would like to wish them the very best for their future.
Mrs Burton, Mrs Brooker and Miss Willard – As you are aware all three will be starting their maternity
leave during the summer holiday and I am sure you will join with me in wishing them the very best. We
will update you with news next term.
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Carroll (Phase Leader Y6), Mrs Van-Schuerbeck (Phase leader
Y4/5) and Miss Beach to our teaching staff in September.
Over the past twelve months, the staff and pupils at Downsbrook have all worked incredibly hard
during our first year as a primary school. We will be pleased to welcome all of our new pupils on
Wednesday for transfer day and again in September for the first day of the new academic year.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely
Mr J Grover
