Name: Period: Date: Kinetic Molecular Theory Project Due: Friday January 14, 2011 Keep this paper and turn it in with your project. Step 1: Your project must: 1. Describe a water molecule as it changes between a solid, liquid, and gas (in a realistic order). 2. Explain vocabulary: solid, liquid, gas, melting or freezing, condensation or vaporization, molecule, energy. 3. Explain how molecular movement changes from a solid to a liquid to a gas. 4. Explain how thermal energy relates to the molecular movement in each phase. 5. All projects must be school appropriate! 6.This is an INDIVIDUAL project – no partners! Step 2: Select ONE project from below to demonstrate your knowledge. Circle your option. Option 1: Children’s Book Write an 8 page children’s book about a water molecule changing into the three phases of matter. Each page must include an illustration (picture). Each page must have 2 to 4 complete sentences that demonstrate your knowledge. Children’s book must have an additional cover with a creative title. Illustrations must be in color. Can be created on the computer. Option 3: CD (or Tape) 6 songs to represent the characteristics of : Solid, Liquid, Gas, and three of the six phase changes (melting, freezing, condensation, vaporization, sublimation, or deposition) 4 page CD insert (in Color!) can be created on computer. Insert must have: explanation for each song. How do the songs represent the terms? Why did you choose these songs? Front cover related to Kinetic Molecular Theory. Back cover that lists the songs and artists. Option 2: Comic Strip Design a comic strip that describes a water molecule changing into the three phases of matter. Must have at least 8 slides (squares). Must have captions for each slide that demonstrate your knowledge. Must be in color. Must be visually appealing. Write an additional paragraph(s) (8 sentence minimum) explaining how your comic demonstrates the phase changes. Option 4: Video Film and edit a video that describes a water molecule changing into the three phases of matter. Video should be 2 to 5 minutes in length. Write an additional paragraph(s) (8 sentence minimum) explaining how your video demonstrates the phase changes and uses the vocabulary. Vocabulary Grade Checklist: I used the word: I gave details about the word: Solid Liquid I have accurate examples of : Solid, Liquid, and Gas Project Rubric: Vocabulary Assessment Grade 20 pts Gas Melting or Freezing Vaporization or Condensation Molecule Energy Explained how thermal energy changes during: Melting or Freezing Explained how thermal energy changes during: Vaporization or Condensation Explained what a molecule is Explained what thermal energy is A P PP U NE Demonstrates understanding (used and explained) all the terms correctly Demonstrates understanding (used all and explained some) of the terms Accurately explains how thermal energy causes phase changes and where the energy comes from. Accurately explains how thermal energy causes phase changes.
