BUTTE COUNTY JOINT SCHOOL DISTRICT #111 Regular School Board Meeting Wednesday, April 20, 2011 Butte Middle School Auditorium The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Vice-Board Chairman, Makayla Callister. Board members present were Marie Cummins, Judy Lish and Alison Boyer, Board Chairman Terry Schwartz was excused. ViceBoard Chairman Makayla invited all present to join her in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Trustee Boyer offering an opening prayer. Trustee Lish moved to adopt the Agenda. Seconded by Trustee Cummins. Motion carried unanimously. Trustee Cummins moved to adopt the Consent Agenda. Seconded by Trustee Lish. Motion carried unanimously. Trustee Lish moved to readopt the agenda with moving the public comment up to 6.7 and adding 7.5, Resolution to Negate Various Policies. Seconded by Trustee Boyer. Motion carried unanimously. Jeff Hough and Arlen Walker from Idaho State University presented a Pilot Program survey results that Butte Staff member participated in earlier in the month. This Pilot Program provides critical information regarding the implementation and integration of technology within a school district. The survey, along with the report, creates a complete picture of the entire district which includes administration and instructional personnel. The results of the survey are on file in the District Office. Principal’s Report: Robert Chambers Butte Middle & Butte High School Our music and drama program presented Music Man and it was very successful. Welders went to Skills USA State and did great. Student Council won $500 cash for the teen dating program. Student body elections have been done at the High School. The parents want half days and will transport their children. Howe will be holding their annual Easter Egg Hunt at 11:30 on Saturday, April 23. Teacher Evaluations complete Thursday, May 26 is Field Day at 12:30 for HES Financial Report: Todd Perkes Business Manager Todd Perkes presented several presentations to the board and the public in attendance. A copy of the questions presented with the answers is included these minutes. The copies of the other presentations that were given are on file in the district office. Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Amy Pancheri 3/22 and 23 – I helped with the state Special Education Child Count Verification in Boise where I reviewed SPED files from several districts and rate and provide feedback. We kept the district office open over the Spring Break, with Todd working T, W, TH, F, Julie T, W, Th, Friday and I worked Thursday and Friday. The district office was required to stay open because of the election. I appreciate Todd and Julie’s willingness to give up their time and help out. 4/4 The bus drivers met with the staff from Arco Elementary and we reviewed student concerns. I taught Love and Logic to the Middle School staff and new teachers. 4/5 Patriot Art at BHS judging 8:30, Leadership Team meeting with the administrators and capacity builders. TIA – I spoke at the TIA Conference in Pocatello. Idaho will be moving to the Common Core Standards in 2 years, so we need to prepare. We will support the TIA as they adapt the State Standards to the Common Core. They are building a cross walk so we know where each standard fits. Some are close and others will be great changes. The new Common Core Assessment will be used in over 42 states beginning 2014. We will be ready. It will cost money to adopt new curriculum and purchase new software and materials. We have to plan for this as we look at our budgeting. This is a critical issue. Post Legislative Tour in Idaho Falls on Tuesday, April 26th - Makayla has volunteered to go, along with Supt, Business Mgr, etc. Hiway 93 SPED group is meeting in Arco on Monday, May 2. We are looking are forming a consortium for special services. May 17 election May 18 Butte Board Meeting and S Lemhi Graduation – What do you want me to do? Lock In for Graduates at BHS May 26 8 Grade to Reeds Gym, then Continuation, Last day for students May 27 Last day for staff – Picnic – all invited to attend June 10 and 11 – Wild Horse SIOP – We would like to provide 3 days PD in SIOP before school next year. Shelter Instruction Operational Protocol Brad Gamett, spokesman for the Facility Committee, with members consisting of Alison Boyer, Shelley Rupp, Carl Farmer and Elizabeth Harmon presented a report on budget adjustment alternatives for the coming school year. He stated Butte County School District is currently facing a critical period in the operation of our schools. With reduced State of Idaho tax revenue and the continued decline in student enrollment, appropriations for preschool through 12th grade for District#111 have been drastically reduced. The full report and options are in the District Office on file in the Butte School District website; www.butteschooldistrict.org Change in the Driver’s Education Legislation was put on hold for a year until further studies can be done. Public Comment: There were many patrons who presented their views and comments on the facility consolidations. Many different suggestions were made to the board and the board appreciated those comments. All individuals that sign up have 3 minutes to present their views. With only one (1) candidate running for Zone 2 and Zone 3, Trustee Cummins moved to declare Carl Farmer as the elected trustee in Zone 2 and Makayla Callister as the elected trustee in Zone 3. Seconded by Trustee Lish. Motion carried unanimously. Butte County will be running a Plant Facility Levy and a Supplemental Levy on May 17th. We encourage all to go out and vote. Also a Trustee Election for Zone 5 will be held with Cheri Pearson running against Board Chairman Terry Schwartz. Trustee Boyer moved to approve the purchase a convection oven for the Butte High School kitchen. Seconded by Trustee Cummins. Motion carried unanimously. Trustee Cummins moved to approve the repair of the freezer in the Butte High School kitchen. Seconded by Trustee Lish. Motion carried unanimously. Trustee Cummins moved to adopt Calendar A for the 2011/2012 school year. Seconded by Trustee Lish. Motion carried unanimously. At 10:30 p.m. Trustee Cummins moved to go into Executive Session citing Idaho Code 67-2345 a, b&c. Seconded by Trustee Boyer. Motion carried unanimously. At 11:50 p.m. Trustee Cummins moved to go out of Executive Session. Seconded by Trustee Boyer. Motion carried unanimously. Trustee Boyer moved to purchase the School Reach program (parent alert) for the School District for the 2011/2012 school year. Seconded by Trustee Cummins. Motion carried unanimously. At 11:55 p.m. Trustee Lish moved to adjourn. Seconded by Trustee Boyer.
