Register to Turnitin to create your account and provide your name and surname correctly. If you already
have an account, use the ID and key to enroll in the FBE Theses class.
When logged in, you can upload your thesis. Before uploading, remove the preamble from your thesis
(Parts before page 1: table of contents, acknowledgments, list of symbols etc.)
After the upload, you will see this screen:
Notice that the thesis is in processing state.
Turnitin can take anywhere from roughly 1 to 8 hours to process your submission, depending on thesis
length.
When the processing is done, you will see the following:
By clicking similarity, you can check which documents you have been accused of plagiarizing from, and if
you are not satisfied with the result, you can change the marked parts of your thesis with your own words
and re-upload your document.
Please note that re-uploading your document will mean you have to wait approximately 24 hours before
it starts processing again.
The report view screen is as follows:
If you click the print icon, and select, Download PDF of current view for printing, you will generate your
thesis originality report. This example is a 100% plagiarized document, under 25% is a good aim on
claiming that the document is mostly original.
When you are done preparing your thesis, you will email fbe [at] boun.edu.tr with your registered turnitin
email, your student number, name, surname and the emails of your thesis jury members.
FBE will then email the institution version of your Turnitin report to your instructors, should they need a
hard copy, the student (you) has to print and send the report to them.
After reviewing your report, the instructors can:


Approve the report, which means you can do your defense.
Or,
File a plagiarism report and begin investigation.
Or,

File a signed report modification request inquiry to FBE (in case of self-publications constituting a
large portion of plagiarisms)
Self-Publications
If you have an issue where your OWN publications are conflicting with your work, you have to talk about
this with your instructor. The report will include this, but the thesis advisor has the right to file a signed
report modification request inquiry to FBE to have the self-publication removed from the Turnitin report.
