AAUW State President Louisiana
Vivian Guillory
Presenting . . . . And
Remembering . . . Evelyn Robinson
Member of AAUW-BR Branch
We are so excited to invite all of you AAUW
Louisiana members to the 2017 State Meeting as
we ride this year’s wave of enthusiasm to protect
the rights of women and their families from
backtracking during these uncertain times.
Our State Meeting April 22 is a mission based
event that you will not want to miss. It will be held
at Juban’s Restaurant in Baton Rouge, famous for
its wonderful dishes! We begin the day with a short
business meeting to introduce you to our guest
AAUW National Board Member Pam Thiel and to
handle three important matters that require
attention; approving a 2017-18 budget, approving
the slate of officers and announcing the Athena
Award.
After a short break, our guests join us as we begin
our program entitled ‘Advocating for ‘Economic
Empowerment and Freedom from Violence for all
Louisiana Women’. It is intended to educate our
membership and guests and to advocate for the
AAUW Policy Program.
Please invite your friends and family! Our
confirmed speakers are Pam Thiel, AAUW
National Board of Directors; Dr. Shanta Proctor,
Director of Women's for Governor John Bel
Edwards; and, Rachael Hebert, LCSW, Director &
CEO of STAR, Sexual Awareness and Response.
There are great speakers that we are still waiting to
hear from, and we’ll let you all know when we do!

Evelyn Louise Williams Robinson
Our first ‘presenter’ (starting in 2017) is Evelyn Robinson.
Evelyn was an AAUW member since July 1, 1972. She
graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business Administration. Later she
received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from
Louisiana State University. She retired from the EBRP
Court’s Family Detention Center as a supervisor.
Evelyn was an active member of several organizations as
well as in her church and community. She was very active
in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Jack and Jill of America and
America Association of University Women. She has
received many awards and honors from her services which
she dearly cherished.
As an AAUW member, she was a frequent attendant of the
Morning Book Group. On November 21, 2015, she
spearheaded (at Southern University Union) the review of
the book about Southern University from the author
himself, Everett Gibson. Unfortunately, due to her illness
she was unable to attend and the faithful group members
were able to give her a good report of the well attended
meeting.
In, 1973 Evelyn served as Chairman of the Campus Study
Group, with Susan Dawson influencing her to become a
member. In 1999, she became the first African American
President of the BR Branch of AAUW. You would often see
her at most meetings, Interest groups and whatever AAUW
was involved in at the time. She worked tirelessly; enjoying
the superb results from what she saw as a group effort; be
it one or many. She was also a Silver Magnolia, an award
recognition for women 70 and over who have made great
and notable contributions to their city presented by the
Women’s Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
If you would like to make a contribution to the Eleanor
Earle Scholarship Fund in Evelyn’s name, please mail
your check to our treasurer:

“Social opinion is like a sharp knife. There are foolish people who regard it only with terror, and dare not touch or meddle with it,
there are more foolish people, who, in rashness or defiance, seize it by the blade, and get cut and mangled for their pains, and there
are wise people, who grasp it discreetly and boldly by the handle, and use it to carve out their own purposes.”
