To live content with small means.
To seek elegance rather than luxury,
And refinement rather than fashion.
To be worthy, not respectable,
And wealthy, not rich.
To study hard, think quietly,
Talk gently, act frankly,
To listen to stars, birds, babes,
and sages with open heart,
To bear all cheerfully,
Do all bravely, await occasions,
Hurry never.
In a word, to let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common.
This is to be my symphony.

* Nearly all men can stand
adversity, but if you want to test
a man's character, give him
power.
* Most folks are about as happy
as they make up their minds to
be.
* Always bear in mind that your
own resolution to succeed is
more important than any other.
* You can fool some of the people
all of the time, and all of the
people some of the time, but you
can not fool all of the people all
of the time.
* A house divided against itself
cannot stand.
* Better to remain silent and be
thought a fool than to speak out
and remove all doubt.
* Whatever you are, be a good
one.
* Those who deny freedom to
others deserve it not for
themselves
* In the end, it's not the years in
your life that count. It's the life
in your years.
* No man has a good enough
memory to be a successful liar.
* America will never be
destroyed from the outside. If we
falter and lose our freedoms, it
will be because we destroyed
ourselves.

came to The Masonic
Home on September 24,
2014, and hails from Lake
Wales Lodge No. 242. He
resides in Room #263E, and
he was born on July 1st,
1918! Loren was born on a farm in Alachua County,
Florida, and was an only child. He graduated from
High School and joined the Marines for six years. He
was in Tank Platoon Support with an entire Squad
under him, in WWll. He married Ann in 1942. They
met while they were living in Washington, DC., and
both were working for the Federal Government. Loren
said at the time they were double dating and doing a lot
of “Skylarking” (goofing off). Ann was originally from
New York and worked as an Accountant for the
Government. They never had any children of their
own, but spent many years helping troubled youth and
giving generous contributions to the Florida Youth
Ranch. They enjoyed years of traveling together, and
would try to take a month off at a time every year to
pile in the car and visit different areas in the United
States. Loren and Ann were married for 40 years, Ann
passed away when she was 62 years old. Loren joined
Masonry in 1945, right after WWII. He is a proud 32nd
Degree Mason. Professionally, he was a Law
Enforcement Agent for 30 years. He started out as a
Deputy, and worked himself up to U.S. Marshall for
the Department of Justice. He retired on February 1,
1972. Loren enjoys listening to music, reads a variety
of books, and likes reading the newspaper daily. He
attends Chapel Services, Music Programs, Ice Cream
Socials, and some Lodge Meetings. He likes to visit his
friend, Clyde, who also lives here. He always brings
kindness and compassion to others. Their gratefulness
and smiles give him an abundance of pleasure! When
he was asked what was the most important thing he has
learned in his long years of life, he replied, “Be honest
and faithful to everyone!” Loren sure does prove his
faithfulness and kindness to others EVERY DAY. We
are sure lucky to have him here with us!
Congratulations, Loren and Happy Valentines Day!
