9th Annual Power of the Flower Exhibition – Call for Entries
“A New Beginning”
This juried exhibition in Markeim’s main gallery will bloom with a kaleidoscope of art inspired by nature. Artists are encouraged to
submit new and challenging perspectives of flora, flowers, buds, grasses and blooms interpreted in a variety of media, including
paintings, photography, textiles and sculpture. Artists are asked to embrace the subtitle, A New Beginning, whenever possible.
ENTRIES:
Entries must be support the theme.
FEE:
1-3 pieces $25 for Markeim Artist Member, $30 for Non-Member. Each additional piece $5. Fees
may be paid via check, cash, credit card or online via PayPal.
Artists under the age of 16 may submit one piece for free. Each additional piece $5. Limit 3 pieces.
SUBMISSIONS:
Submission is a two-step process (please read carefully):
1. Payment and submission information must be entered here: http://bit.ly/2nM7MRM.
2. Digital submissions are preferred and should be emailed to [email protected] with
“Power of the Flower” in the subject line. JPG files should be sent as attachments no larger than
1MB. Please use the following naming convention for your JPG files: last name first initial-title.jpg.

Selected digital work to be dropped off at Markeim on dates specified below. Although digital
submissions are preferred, artists may also drop off physical pieces for judging. See schedule below.

PLEASE NOTE:
Markeim has limited storage space. Work
left beyond last pickup date will be subject
to a $5.00 per day storage fee.
LABELING:
All work MUST be labeled (visible on front) with the following information prior to drop off: Title,
Medium, Artist’s Name and Price. Youth entries should also include the artist’s age and school name.
SALE OF WORK:
All work must be offered for sale and available for duration of the exhibit. Markeim Arts Center will
receive a 35% commission on sale of all work.
INSURANCE:
Reasonable care will be taken with work submitted for this exhibition. For insurance purposes, the
stated price less 35% will be the insured value of the work. Works will be insured up to $3,000 on
Markeim Arts Center premises. Arts are responsible for insuring their work during transit to and
from the Center.

Artists must be 16 years or older for consideration of professional awards.
Works must support the theme.
All mediums accepted (2D or 3D).
Works not to exceed 72” x 72”.
Only works not previously entered in a Markeim juried exhibition are eligible.
Art work must be suitably framed, wired or prepared for exhibition.
Submitted work must be for sale and available for the entirety of the exhibition.

JUROR:
Carol Gooberman has been a professional artist for over 40 years. She earned her BFA degree from
Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia in 1977, and now lives in Haddonfield, NJ. Carol’s
work has been seen in homes and galleries throughout the region. Her work has been described as
“soft realism”, as she renders light using pastel colors to create colorful shadows and reflections.
Carol paints flowers and nature, Victorian themes with women and children, beach scenes, cats,
sunsets, etc.
OPENING RECEPTION:
The opening reception for Power of the Flower will be on Friday night, May 12, from 7-9 PM.
Participating artists are asked to bring a small plate or dessert. All guests are invited to BYOB.
