Integers
Integer – any whole number that is positive or negative and zero. You
can use a number line to help you find the right integer to describe a
situation.

Zero is NEUTRAL. Neutral – not positive or negative.
Integers are used to describe real-life situations. Positive integers do not
need a sign. +4 = 4 Negative integers MUST have a sign. -4
The further to the left on the number line, the LESS you have.
Ex:
-5
Negative five could represent a situation like the
following.
I owe my dad $5.
I lost 5 stickers.
Integers are used to describe temperature as well.
Ex:
27
It is 27 F today.
-13
The freezer is -13 C.
Try these.
Veronica received $40 from her grandparents for her birthday.
James lost 12 pounds last week.
Amy lent Marissa 3 outfits while they were on vacation.
Mark deposited $80 in his savings account.
Integer vocabulary is important to describing situations.

Comparing Integers:
You compare based on their position on the number line.
Ex:
-3
Try these.
8
-20
3
-3 means you owe 3; 3 means you have 3
So, having 3 is more than owing 3. <

Ordering Integers:
You order integers based on their position on the number line.
Ex:
-8 4 8 0 -9
-2
If ordering from least to greatest, just
make it resemble the number line.
-9 -8 -2 0 4 8 is the answer.
Try ordering these from greatest to least.
7 -3 12 -15 0
9 -50 72 77 -81
