the delegates met and discussed at the first continental congress.
Chapter 1: The First Continental Congress
In this amazing chapter you will learn more about the first
continental congress. You will learn about what caused the
delegates to meet at carpenters hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
And more about what they discussed to.
One of the reasons why they had the first continental
congress meeting was that they were deciding a response to the
Intolerable Acts. The Intolerable Acts came right before the
first continental congress meeting. The Intolerable Acts was to
punish the Massachusetts for throwing a large tea shipment into
the Boston harbor. So the Boston tea party of 1773 came right
before the Intolerable Acts. All of this made the delegates meet.
The Intolerable Acts passed in 1774 to punish the colonists
for participating in the Boston tea party. There were three big
Acts involved that angered the colonists. One of them was the
Boston port bill and it shut down the Boston harbor until the
people of Boston paid for the large tea shipment they threw in
the Boston harbor.
Without the first continental congress it would have been
hard to enforce the Intolerable Acts.
Chapter 2: HF Mini-Story
Date: September 5, 1774
Entry: Dear diary,
My name is George, George Thomas. It's the beginning of fall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania I
was walking home from school one day and then I saw it: carpenters hall. I have always wondered
what was going on in there so I went up to get a closer look at it. I stepped inside and then I heard
voices so I followed them and then I get there I try to stay hidden. I look around “what” I whisper. I
just saw George Washington.
“Fellow delegates it is I George Washington. The Intolerable Acts or Coercive Acts just passed.
They wanted to punish the Massachusetts for throwing a large tea shipment into the Boston harbor”
said George Washington.
I raced home as fast as I could I told my mom everything and she said.
“It’s ok they're gonna make everything back to normal”.
Sincerely: George T.
Date: September 6, 1774
Entry: “MOM MOM George Washington is on the news paper”.
“Coming” thump thump.
“Fellow people of Philadelphia it is I George Washington you probably know the Intolerable
Acts just passed. Me and the other delegates thought about a response to it and we decided to boycott”.
“What why” I say.
“It is just how life is just think about the bright side”.
Sincerely: George T.
Chapter 3: Loyalist Patriot or Neutral
I Think being a patriot is better than being a loyalist or being
neutral. One of the reasons is I would want to defend my country
and save America. My second reason is because if I was not a
patriot maybe I would not even be here. I would not even be
writing this. My third reason is I think I might have made a big
difference in history and made life better for others.
My first reason is I would want to defend America and keep
it safe I definitely would not want it destroyed. Then if we lost
the war Britain might still be in control of America.
My second reason is maybe if I was not a patriot I would not
even be alive maybe I would not even be writing this. And this is a
possibility but maybe we would not even have won the war against
Britain.
My third reason is if I was a patriot I probably would have
made a big difference for others. And then in the future we
would not be ruled by Britain. And we would still have everything
we have today.
I think being a patriot is better than being a loyalist or
neutral because I would want to defend and keep America safe.
Also because if I was not a patriot maybe I would not be here or
even be writing this. And if I was a patriot I might have made a
huge difference. And might have made a difference for other
people.
