Message From the Principal
Let me share with you some wise words on team work and tenacity by Glen McKenzie Gr 7D.
ACROSTIC POEM
O
–
Our desire to win drives us to train
If we do well we become legends that story remains
L
-
Live it, breath it, it is our dream
But we wouldn’t get very far without a coach or a team
Y
-
You need to be prepared because life can throw a curve ball
But you are defined if you get up and carry on after crashing into a wall
M
-
Many people compete and it’s alright if you do not succeed
And the fact is that the joy is really all you need
P
-
Pictures of people in the hall of fame
You could be there one day if you’re good at the game
I
-
If you are determined you can make it all the way
It may seem long but you can start your journey to success today
C
-
Can’t give up, it’s not an option on the table
You can push on even if you think you are unable
S
-
Sportsmanship is important in a game
You cannot deny, lie or even blame!
Thank you Glen.

OUR BRYANDALE FAMILY
I was very
disappointed last
week when our
Bryandale parents
were victims of car
jamming outside the
school. When we are
violated in this manner, we need to work
together to protect ourselves and our families.
I have an open door policy to encourage parents
to inform me of what is happening in and around
the school so that I can address these matters. I
assure you that I attend to every issue that is
brought to my attention.
Steps we have taken to increase the security in
and around the school:-
-
Both Proforce and RSS patrol vehicles will
be more visible during peak periods.
We have increased our guarding around
the school. Guards will patrol in Stirling
Road and Cumberland Avenue before
school. These guards are there to
monitor activity and will notify the
security companies if they see anything
suspicious. They have been trained on
how to react.
Signage has been ordered and will be
displayed outside the school.
Security cameras are operational around
the school.
We need you to be vigilant too. Please look
around before you leave your car, ensure that
the doors are locked and that valuables are not
left visible in the car.
The police and security companies inform us that
crime is on the increase in our suburbs, so please
parents let us work together, as a team, to
ensure safety for all of us.
GRADE 6 AND 7 STUDY SKILLS PROGRAMME
The study skills programme for all Grade 6 and 7
learners will take place next week Monday,
7 March – Friday, 11 March. It includes a 5 hour
training session, a workbook and an information
evening for parents. Please ensure that you pay
the R85 to the register teacher before Friday.
Should you encounter a difficulty with this,
please contact the school.
JEANS FOR GENES
Thank you to all parents and learners who
participated in the “Jeans for
Genes” rare diseases day. We
raised a whopping R8 000 for
the organisation – truly a
worthy cause.
TOPS AND TAGS
Tags and tops is a school initiative
which provides the children with an opportunity
to be involved in the community and gain an
understanding of recycling and how it can impact
on the environment. The children are required to
collect the plastic tops of any bottles and the
tags off bread and bring them to school. The
classes all have bins where they can put their
tags and tops. We are doing a six weekly
competition with all the classes in the school to
see who is able to bring in the most items and
that class will get a prize. Once the school has
collect 150kg of tops and 15kg of bread tags the
charity will donate a wheelchair to a needy
person or institution. Good luck to all the classes
and happy recycling.
ENCOURAGING RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS
The office is regularly asked to deliver items to
learners who have left them at home. Please
help your children to follow the routine of
packing their bag the night before to ensure that
all necessary items are ready for school the next
morning.
Pack their bags according to their timetable,
include extra-mural items plus lunch. The
constant stream of requests is disruptive to the
office and the other learners.
If you need to fetch your child early for any
reason, a written request must be made to the
Principal. Any person who collects a child early
from school is required to produce positive
identification – this is for the protection of the
learners.
LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
All learners are
expected to
remain in
school for the
full duration of
the school day.
