INSTRUCTIONS FOR UNDERGROUND LAYING OF TANKS
1. PREPARE A TRENCH WITH A LEVEL AND SMOOTH BASE. LEAVE AN OPEN SPACE FOR
THE INTERMENT MATERIAL ALL AROUND THE DIMENSION OF THE TANK (minimum 30 cm
for side, more in presence of heavy ground or water in the soil).
2. PUT A LAYER OF SAND IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TRENCH (USING CONCRETE IN
PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE SOIL) THIS LAYER ACCURATELY COMPACTED AND
WITHOUT SHARP STONES MUST HAVE A THICKNESS HIGHER THAN 15 CM.
3. THE SURFACE OF THE BOTTOM OF THE EXCAVATION MUST BE PERFECTLY FLAT AND
ADEQUATELY SOLID TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE TANK FILLED WITH WATER.
4. CONNECT AND CHECK ALL THE JUNCTIONS, PAING PARTICULAR ATTENTION ON THE
VENT PIPE, THIS CONNECTION MUST BE CORRECTLY DIMENSIONED AND KEPT FREE TO
AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF DEPRESSION INTO THE TANK THAT CAN OCCUR IN CASE OF
INSTALLATION OF PUMPING MACHINES.
5. FILL GRADUALLY THE TANK WITH WATER AND PUT THE SAND OF SUPPORT (or concrete
in dangerous situation) IN THE SAME TIME. GO ON, DISPOSING LAYER OF MATERIAL (20
cm HIGH) IN SUCCESSION, FILLING THE TANK WITH WATER BEFORE. USING CONCRETE
WE SUGGEST TO WAIT THAT THE MATERIAL OF EACH LAYER BECOME PARTIALLY SOLID
BEFORE PROCESSING WITH A FOLLOWING LAYER OF SUPPORT. USING SAND ASSURE
THE COMPLETE DISPERSON AND COMPACTNESS OF THE SUPPORT.
6. THE PRESENCE OF UNDERGROUND WATER CAUSES THE INCREASE OF LOAD UPON THE
SIDES AND THE BASE OF THE TANK. IN PRESENCE OF GROUND WATER IN THE SITE OF
THE TANK LATERAL LOADS RISE UP AND WITH HEAVY SOIL THE SHOVE CAN BE TOO
HIGH. IN THIS SITUATION IS NECESSARY THE CONSTRUCTION OF ISOLATIONS AND IN
CASE A SYSTEM OF DRAINAGE. CONCRETE EVENTUALLY ARMED CAN BE USED TO
PROTECT THE TANK, THE TRENCH SHOULD HAVE BIGGER WIDTH AND LENGTH IN
RELATION WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE NATURAL SOIL. MUCH IMPORTANCE HAS THE
BOTTOM OF THE EXCAVATION, IT SHOULD BE QUITE HEAVY TO PROTECT THE TANK
FROM THE UNDER SHOVE OF WATER, THIS SHOVE DEPENDS UPON THE HIGH OF THE
SURFACE OF UNDERGROUND WATER. IN CASE OF STORAGE OF CHEMICAL COMPOUND
OR IN CONDITION PARTICULARLY CRITICAL OF SOIL IT IS BETTER TO BUILT THE WALL
OF THE TRENCH IN REINFORCED CONCRETE AND FILL THE EMPTY VOLUME BETWEEN
TANK AND WALLS WITH SAND.
7. IN PRESENCE OF SLOPES THE TANK MUST BE PROTECTED BY CONCRETE WALL
(EVENTUALLY ARMED) IN THE SIDE MORE STRESSED. THE SITE SHOULD ALSO BE
ISOLATED FROM THE PENETRATION OF UNDERGROUND WATER BY DREINAGE SYSTEMS.
8. COVER THE TANK WITH SAND, CONCRETE OR VEGETAL SOIL FOR A MAXIMUM HEIGHT
OF 50 cm. THE TANK AS THE SITE OF TRENCH CAN SUSTAIN ONLY THE LOAD OF COVER
MATERIAL AND THE PEDESTRIAN TRANSIT. TO MAKE THE AREA RIGHT FOR TRAFFIC OF
VEHICLES IT’S NEEDED TO BUILD A LAYER IN REINFORCED CONCRETE NOT SUPPORTED
BY THE TANK. THE STRUCTURE OF THIS COVERING LAYER DEPENDS UPON THE
FORESEEN TRAFFIC LOAD.
9. MANHOLES INSTALLED SHOULD HAVE A MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF 100 kg. CONSTRUCTIONS
WHITH A BIGGER WEIGHT MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE LAYER OF COVERING.
10. AVOID THE BUILDING OF STRUCTURES THAT CAN PREVENT THE OPERATION OF
MAINTENANCE OR SOSTITUTION OF THE TANK.
11. THE USE OF AN UNDERGROUND TANK FOR OUTSIDE PLACEMENT IS FORBIDDEN.
12. THE STORAGE OF HYDROCARBON, CHEMICAL COMPOUND, SOLVENTS IS FORBIDDEN
WITHOUT A VOLUME OF RECOVERY THAT CAN AVOID THE LOSS OF LIQUID ALSO IN THE
CASE OF BREAK OF THE TANK.
