Advocacy What is advocacy? Advocacy in all its forms seeks to ensure that people are able to: • Have their voice heard on issues that are important to them. • Defend and safeguard their rights. • Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives. It is not always easy to express your wishes or preferences. If decisions are being made that affect your future, or the future of someone that you care for, you may feel that your side of the discussion is not being put across properly. An advocate can assist you to voice your opinions on a specific matter. Advocates are neutral and independent. What you say to them is confidential. They will work directly with you to help you have your say. How do I find an advocate? For more information about independent advocacy services, or for a referral, call Freephone 0800 6446448.
