Many people with an STI or BBV have no symptoms and can only be diagnosed by a test. Always consider a check-up if you experience: pain, discomfort or a burning sensation when urinating an unusual discharge from your penis, vagina or anus itchiness around the genital area a rash, sores or small lumps on or around the penis, vagina or anus pain and swelling in the testicles pain during sexual intercourse unusual bleeding from the vagina after sexual intercourse or between periods swollen glands, fever and body unexplained fatigue, night sweats and weight loss a sore throat Other reasons to consider a check-up are: your current or previous sexual partner informs you, or you’ve heard rumours they have an STI or BBV you have had unprotected sexual intercourse or a condom has broken with a casual, new or previous partner concerns that a current or previous partner may have had unprotected sexual contact with a person other than yourself Recommended frequency for STI/BBV check-ups vary depending on the amount of sexual activity, type of sexual activity, age and gender.
