ANNOUNCEMENTS/ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS PARENTS MEETING – Parents you are invited to attend the Parents Meeting this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to discuss your assistance in developing the Phoenix Division Parents Association. We need to your help and insight to continue the growth and development of opportunities for the cadets and their division. Bring ideas on what you would like to help develop fundraising and support opportunities for parents to take an active role in the program. I would like to see more of you come to the meeting so we can plan the end of the current school year, summer training opportunities and next year’s activities. All Hands: Check your ID cards for current dates of enrollment, if your enrollment date is April 2017 or older, you need to reenroll or see the Admin officer about your ID card. Any Questions about your ID card should be answered before you leave on Sunday of drill. Do not hesitate in letting your chain of command work for you. At a minimum speak to the Admin Officer during Admin time on Sunday. If you need to reenroll, you will need to bring $100.00 in the form of check, money order. BATTLESHIP ARIZONA Hensley and Company Distributing, 4201 N. 45th Ave, Phoenix, AZ ALL HANDS: PIMA Air and Space Museum Day Trip – There is a day trip going to the PASM in Tucson on 25 March 2017, leaving 0630 with a pit stop head break on the way if needed. Lunch will be provided at the museum. You may want to bring a camera to take pictures and a pen/pencil. If you wish to purchase souvenirs at the museum gift shop, you should not bring more than $40 dollars to control impulse buying. You may also want to bring a personal hydration device (camelback/canteen/personal water bottle). Uniform of the day is NWUs/BDUs for cadets and officers/staff. For adult volunteers may want to wear light clothes and shorts with closed toe shoes. COURSEWORK, COURSEWORK, COURSEWORK! Be sure to fill out your coursework answer sheets completely and correctly. If you do not know how to complete your coursework and paperwork, ask your Petty Officers. If the paperwork is not filled out properly, it may impact the ability of staff to grade and submit your work for credit. If you having problems with training materials, ASK!!! Grooming Standards; males, be sure that haircuts are in regulation and females; hair is properly rolled and pinned. If you have facial hair or sideburns, be sure to shave and trim to comply with NSCC standards. Naval History for MARCH 14 MAR 1863 - A squadron of ships led by Rear Adm. David G. Farragut passes the heavy batteries at Port Hudson, La., to establish a blockade of Red River supply lines during the Civil War. 14 MAR 1945 - During the Battle for Iwo Jima, Marine (Pvt. George Phillips and Pvt. Franklin E. Sigler) each perform acts of "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life." Both are awarded Medals of Honors, Phillips receives his posthumously. 19 MAR 1917 - Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels authorized the enlistment of women to help alleviate a projected shortage of clerical workers. 25 MAR 1945 - After 35 days of bitter fighting, the amphibious assault on the rocky fortress of Iwo Jima finally appeared over. On the night of 25 March, however, a 300-man Japanese force launched a vicious final counterattack in the vicinity of Airfield Number 2. Army pilots, Seabees and Marines of the 5th Pioneer Battalion and 28th Marines fought the fanatical Japanese force till morning but suffered heavy casualties --more than l00 killed and another 200 American wounded. Nearly all of the Japanese force was killed in the battle. 31 MAR 1992 - USS Missouri (BB-63), the last active American battleship, is decommissioned. Commissioned in June 1944, she served during World War II, notably for the location of the official Japanese surrender on Sept. 2, 1945. Today, the "Mighty Mo" is open for visitors in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as the Battleship Missouri Memorial, under the care of the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Inc.
