Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, we are pleased to
present you with the 2017 Bucks Fever – A Celebration of the Arts brochure. Over
three decades ago, Bucks Fever was conceived by Chamber members to “Support
the Arts through Business.” What started as a small handful of arts events over a
short period of time has grown to include 9 major Chamber arts events and well
over 400 community wide celebrations of the arts over a 10-month period.
By uniting the business, arts and cultural community, the Chamber has
synthesized the very best of Bucks County in order to increase tourism, augment
the economic vitality of the region and celebrate the community’s rich, artistic and
cultural heritage. Bucks Fever is solely supported by the business community and
we thank all of the Benefactors and Patrons for their generous support. Their
commitment enables us to give you this publication free of charge and to promote
hundreds of arts and cultural events at no-cost to the host organizations. In
addition, we distribute over 33,000 copies of this “in demand” publication to local
businesses, individuals and tourists visiting Bucks County.
We invite you, and those you know, to “Celebrate the Arts” by participating in
the many events throughout the Bucks Fever season. Your participation enables the
Chamber and the many organizations promoted in this brochure to continue the rich
artistic and cultural legacy in our community for many years to come!

A MESSAGE FROM UNIVEST
Join us in celebrating the arts
in Bucks County!
Univest Corporation and its employees are proud to once again serve as
the signature benefactor of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce’s Bucks
Fever program. This year marks our 14th consecutive year as the lead sponsor
of this unique, seven-month long celebration of Bucks County’s artistic and
cultural heritage.
The arts have the power to inspire, educate and delight us, and they are
important contributors to the livability and vibrancy of a community. Each year the
Bucks Fever program highlights and promotes the tremendous diversity of artistic
talent and opportunities that can be found in our area. The program serves as an
important conduit between the arts, business and the public – and it stimulates
economic growth, too.
At Univest, we believe our success is directly tied to the strength of our
communities. As a result, each year, we make it a priority to give time, talent and
financial support to help nonprofits, enhance arts and cultural experiences, and
strengthen our local economy. In 2016, Univest and its employees volunteered
more than 17,500 hours in the community and contributed more than $1.6 million.
As a company, we are committed to local, committed to delivering comprehensive
financial solutions, and committed to you!
Bucks Fever is a signature
program of the Central Bucks
Chamber of Commerce that
“Supports the Arts through
Business.” Founded over four
decades ago, Bucks Fever’s
mission is to augment the
economic vitality of the region
by increasing tourism and
engaging the local community
in Bucks County’s rich artistic and
cultural legacy. Bucks Fever events
run from March through December.

Ms. DiSantis will reference the publication of

Glenn Harrington: Solo
Exhibition —”My fascination with painting
the figure in natural settings has never
waned. ‘Red Shale Pool’ is the story of my
son at a particular stage in his life and in our
relationship. It’s a beautiful relationship; it
is our story.” Harrington’s natural landscapes
show the range of his style: “Red Shale
Pool” is dynamically painted, with bold and
artificial blues and greens, while “Rocks” is
naturalistic, balanced, and stoic. Describing
“Red Shale Pool,” Harrington writes, “My high
school English teacher emphasized the idea
that our individual stories were worth writing
about. It’s hard to understand that when
you’re young and seemingly unimportant, yet
as we gain worldly experience we realize how
special our stories truly are.”

FED Talks: The Food/Mood
Connection and the Myth of
Mental Illness — Connie Guerin, MA,
MS will discuss the growing mental health
epidemic and show us what our brains are
really craving. We will discuss the relationship
between food and emotional states, the
effect that our current food system has on
our brains and how eating clean, natural
food creates clarity of mind. Studies show a
balanced approach to mental health provides
a dramatic increase in energy and better mood,
a reduction in anxiety and an easing of physical
and emotional symptoms. Proceeds benefit the
Doylestown Food Market.

A Few Good Men: A Drama by
Aaron Sorkin — the trial of two Marines
The Public House of the 1820s
for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine
at Guantanamo Bay. The Navy lawyer, a callow
young man more interested in softball games
than the case, expects a plea bargain and a
cover up of what really happened. Prodded by
a female member of his defense team, the
lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to
defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the
military mentality and the Marine code of
honor on trial. Tickets: $17

The Laramie Project – A Drama by
Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic
Theater Project, The Laramie Project is about the
reaction to the 1998 murder of University of
Wyoming gay student Matthew Shepard in
Laramie, Wyoming. The murder was denounced
as a hate crime and brought attention to
the lack of hate crime laws in various
states, including Wyoming. The play draws
on hundreds of interviews conducted by the
theatre company with inhabitants of the town,
company members’ own journal entries, and
published news reports. It is divided into
three acts, and eight actors portray more than
sixty characters in a series of short scenes.

Food Chains — Executive producer Eva
Longoria reveals the human cost in our food
supply and the complicity of large buyers of
produce like fast food and supermarkets.
Fast food is big, but supermarkets are bigger
– earning $4 trillion globally. Over the past
3 decades they have drained revenue from
their supply chain leaving farm workers in
poverty and forced to work under subhuman
conditions. The film outlines several programs
that are trying to rectify this and bringing
hope to our nation’s farm workers. Proceeds
benefit the Doylestown Food Market.
