Charles Darwin began developing his theories of evolution while studying finches and tortoises in the
Galapagos Islands in 1825. This World Heritage Site has changed little since Darwin’s visit. These
rugged, desert islands harbor a diversity of wildlife which Mel Baughman was able to photograph upclose during a week-long voyage that included daily hiking and snorkeling. Learn about giant tortoises,
finches and numerous other bird species, iguanas, fish, crabs, seals and sea lions. Hear stories about
the volcanic origin of the islands, their climate, and early settlement.
