Fast Track Courses
Gra am Fast Track offers the opportunity to become a mul ‐qualified instructor and give your career in the
outdoors a kick start. Learn from our experienced staff who will give you all the skills you need to become a
successful instructor. Alongside this course we can offer a months work experience where you will work along side
our staff in a busy Centre environment.
The courses primarily run 5 days a week with some excep ons. Days off are free for you to work on your skills or
take part in other courses running at the Centre. Some weeks will run over 6 days.
Both schemes include food, accommoda on, logbooks and use of Centre equipment and facili es in free me.
Water Based 8 weeks 26 October –19 December 2014 £3500 Our water based programme will include personal training in Dinghy Sailing, Canoeing and Kayaking. First aid
training and other pre‐requisites for instructor courses will be covered. Towards the end of the course candidates
will be entered onto the RYA Dinghy Instructor and UKCC BCU Level 1 Coach courses.

Other Qualifica ons ‐ RYA First Aid, Powerboat Level 2, sailing scheme qualifica ons, UKCC BCU 2*, Founda on
Safety and Rescue.
Recommenda ons ‐ It is essen al that par cipants have some sailing and paddlesports experience prior to the
course start date ‐ RYA Level 1 Sailing and BCU 1 Star standard as a minimum
Land Based 4 weeks 20 January ‐ 15 February 2015 £1975 The land based programme will give you the founda on skills to deliver a range of land based ac vi es. Our staff will
build upon your current knowledge prior to undertaking the instructor courses.
Instruc onal Qualifica ons ‐ MLT Climbing Wall Award Training, GNAS Archery Leader, BSCA Mountain Bike Leader.
Other Qualifica ons ‐ First Aid Cer ficate, NICAS climbing qualifica ons.
Recommenda ons ‐ It would be advantageous for those a ending the Fast‐Track course to have a basic under‐
standing of the sports involved. It is recommended that par cipants are competent mountain bike riders and have
previously climbed. A NICAS level 1 or similar ability would be ideal.

During the course all specialist equipment can be provided. However as an instructor it is useful to have your own equipment. The list

Other Extra Costs
Insurance ‐ it is strongly recommended that you take out insurance to cover you for the dura on of the course. This would cover you
in the event of injury or other extenua ng circumstances preven ng you from being able to complete the course.
Work Experience
In order the help you kick start your career in the outdoors we offer the opportunity to undertake a months work experience.
This opportunity will give you:

 Access to courses running at the Centre
During this me you will be living with our live‐in staff and treated very much as a staff member. Board and accommoda on will be
included free of charge in return for your me. You will work with a range of instructors and group types. Work experience will run
through March, places are limited and applica ons will be available during your course.
About Grafham Water Centre
Gra am Water Centre is a very well known and successful LEA Outdoor Educa on Centre with over forty years of
teaching experience in the outdoors. This makes us an ideal choice to help you to become an outdoor pursuits instructor.
The Centre is based on the shore of Gra am Water, which at over 1600 acres, is one of the best inland sailing venues in
the whole of England.
Our Customers The Centre provides a wide range of courses and welcomes over
25,000 customers each year. A school term sees the Centre busy with
school residen al visits and day groups. Out of term me the Centre
has a range of mixed user groups with various aim including work with
chari es, youth groups, disability groups and our own ac vity
programmes. Through the winter the Centre is busy with visi ng RYA
sailing squads which aim to train the next Olympic medallists. Through
out the year the Centre offers Na onal Governing Body courses in a
wide range of sports from basic to performance levels.
Our Ac vi es We offer a wide range of ac vi es, both land and water based. In total
there are 13 ac vi es. Royal Yach ng Associa on, Bri sh Canoe Union,
Adventure Ac vi es Licensing Service and Adventure Mark are but
some of the accredita ons we hold. The Centre has a wide range of
modern equipment for all of the ac vi es, enabling you to experience
and understand how to use equipment regularly used throughout the
industry. The Centre has equipment that allows those with disabili es
to par cipate in many of the ac vi es we offer.
Our Staff Gra am Water Centre has a wide range of staff that are highly
qualified within their field of exper se and have years of experience
within the outdoor industry. The experience of our staff makes them
the ideal people to train and mentor future instructors.
Our Facili es The Centre has accommoda on for up to 120 ranging from 8 person
dormitories to single occupancy en‐suite rooms. The accommoda on
is split across two buildings and 3 different areas. Being residen al,
the Centre provides meals. All food is prepared and cooked onsite. The
Centre has 5 different lounges with Wi‐Fi access, TV and DVD players,
as well as wet classrooms. The Centre prides itself in being a fully
accessible.
