Seam allowances vary so measure through the center of the quilt before cutting border pieces. Center Square Cut 1 square 16½” x 16½” from blue main (C2570 Blue) Border 1 Cut 2 strips 2½” x WOF from blue stripes (C2575 Blue) Pieced Four-Patch Blocks for Border 2, 3, 5 and 6 Cut 11 strips 2½” x WOF from cream phrases (C2573 Cream) Cut 3 strips 2½” x WOF from blue phrases (C2573 Blue) Cut 2 strips 2½” x WOF from green dots (C2574 Green) Cut 2 strips 2½” x WOF from blue stripes (C2575 Blue) Cut 2 strips 2½” x WOF from tea dye (C100-20 Tea Dye) Cut 2 strips 2½” x WOF from licorice (C100-19 Licorice) Border 3 (Cut directionally as shown in quilt photo.) First, cut 2 strips 4½” x 28½” lengthwise (parallel to selvage) from gray ship (C2571 Gray) for the side borders. From the remaining fabric, cut 2 strips 4½” x 28½” widthwise (selvage to selvage) from gray ship (C2571 Gray) for the top and bottom borders. Border 4 Cut 4 strips 2½” x WOF from blue stripes (C2575 Blue) Border 6 Cut 5 strips 4½” x WOF from brown skulls (C2572 Brown) QUILT ASSEMBLY Refer to quilt photo for placement of blocks. Four-Patch Block Refer to the block diagram for piece placement. Sew a 2½” cream phrases strip to a 2½” printed fabric strip. (If you want the words from the phrases to go in the same direction, pay careful attention to which direction you sew these strips together.) Cut the strip into 2½” segments. Sew 2 segments together to make a Four-Patch Block. You will need to make 68 Four-Patch A Blocks (8 blue stripes, 20 blue phrases, 14 green dots, 14 licorice, 12 tea dye) and 8 Four-Patch B Blocks (blue stripes). Four Patch A Four Patch B Quilt Center Assembly See quilt photo for center and border placement. Sew sides for border 1 to the center 16½” square. Repeat for the top and bottom border 1. Borders Seam allowances vary so measure through the center of the quilt before cutting border pieces. Sew side borders first. Border 1 Side borders should be 16½”. Top and bottom borders should be 20½”. Border 2 Sew 5 Four-Patch Blocks together. Sew to each side of the quilt. Sew 7 Four-Patch Blocks together. Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt. Border 3 Sew a 4½” x 28½” strip to each side of the quilt. Sew a blue stripe Four-Patch Block to each end of the 2 remaining 4½” x 48½” strips. Sew these strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Border 4 Side borders should be 36½”. Top and bottom borders should be 40½”. Border 5 Sew 10 Four-Patch Blocks together. Sew to each side of the quilt. Sew 12 Four-Patch Blocks together. Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt. Border 6 Sew a 4½” x 48½” strip to each side of the quilt. Sew a blue stripes Four-Patch Block to each end of the 2 remaining 4½” x 48½” strips. Sew these strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Finish quilt by layering the quilt top, batting, and back. Bind with your favorite Riley Blake fabric from the Pirates Collection.
