Heath Estate Fun Day continued.....
You are all invited to join us at Heath Park on Heath Estate on Saturday 9 July
10:00 am – 2:00 pm; Holmewood and Heath Healthy Futures Group are
hosting the first fun day on the estate in the hope that we can make it an
annual event. Please come and join us to make it a success. Parking is
limited around the park area so we are encouraging local people to walk to
the event although we have use of the school field at Heath Primary school
located on Slack Lane.
We have a fun packed day with Fair Ground Rides, BMX road show, the fire service
will be in attendance with the engine and smoke house, we have bouncy castles
and much much more to entertain the whole of the family.
Summer Security
- A message from the Police
Summer is here and we all like to
enjoy spending time in our gardens
or outdoors to make the most of the
lovely British weather. The thing is
not everyone
remembers to
secure their
gardens, shed
and garages so
here are some
steps to take to
ensure you
reduce the
chances of
theft;
• Fit good quality, substantial locks.
• Secure hinges with coach bolts and
security screws.
• Invest in a shed alarm if possible.
• If you do leave items of high value
in your shed, engrave or mark these
items with your house number and
postcode. Secure the items to the
floor or leave in a secured cottage.
• Keep gates locked and position
them close to the front of your
house.
• Fill the bottom of pots and planters
with heavy stones.
• Put tools and equipment away after
use.

A rubbish
session for
kids!
Children who attend St.Albans
Superkids club were shocked when
they arrived at a recent session –
the room was an absolute mess!
Litter everywhere!
It was all part of a session led by
Rykneld Homes Community
Involvement team to educate the
children about litter, recycling and
looking after the community. The
children were brilliant and made pacts
about not dropping litter and helping
us to keep Holmewood and Heath
clean. Some litter facts the children
learnt were that people aged 18 -34
years old were most likely to
deliberately drop litter and the most
frequently littered items are cigarette
ends, chewing gum and food
packaging. The Community
Involvement Team is looking forward
to visiting Dynamite Youth Club in July
to spread the message.

Holmewood Girls Night In is back!
To give readers and particularly girls aged 14-19, who we are hoping
will come along to our session, a feel for the Thursday evening’s we
have asked Jade Ashmore a few questions. Jade now works for
Sporting Futures, who she used to volunteer with and is also part of the
British Boxing Olympic team. As a local resident, she is really
passionate about getting girls involved with opportunities like this one.
You don’t need to be sporty or have the right kit; just turn up for some
light hearted fun with your mates and be willing to try new things!
What potential does
Holmewood Girls Night In
(GNI) have?
I think the girl’s hub has massive
potential for the girls in Holmewood,
offering the girls a fun, safe
environment, while enjoying themselves
participating in the sessions.
Which one creative activity
gives an idea of what goes
on at GNI?
There are lots of creative activities to do
at the hub. Smoothie making, baking or
even cake decorating to name just a
few, but we could do whatever the girls
want to do.
What activity do
you specialise in?
I am an amateur boxer and I’m a
qualified Level 1 Boxing Coach, as well
as a Level 3 Sports Coach. My speciality
would be Boxercise, basically putting
some of the elements of boxing training
together into a fun fitness circuit and
getting the girls or whoever pumped.
What other activities might
you do at GNI?
We have a wide range of activities on
offer for the girls. There’s always table
tennis, badminton, basketball, indoor
tennis, whatever the girls fancy really.
Sporting Futures have a lot of kit that we
can use.
Up and coming Library events

If we wanted to try
something completely
different could we do it?
Yeah, like I say, provided it’s not too
dangerous and available in Derbyshire,
we can get other coaches or instructors
in from other sports or we could even go
to different venues if the girls wanted for
a one off.
If you or someone you know is
interested to find out what’s going on at
the McIntyre Centre in Holmewood
5.30pm - 7pm every Thursday, please

Parish News
The possibility of locating a skate park
within the Parish is now moving on
from a possible dream project to a
reality. Funding streams are been
sought, with the Council hoping to
have the project complete within the
next 6 months.
The Clerk would like to hear from any
youngsters who would like to help design
the area, come on kids you’ve waited long
enough let’s make this happen. A skate
park brain storming session will be
organised so everyone can come along
and share their ideas, the date will be
circulated shortly.
On another positive point for the
youngsters of the Parish, I’m pleased to
say that the old BMX track located at
Heath play area is due to be re-furbished
within the next few months. So get your
BMX’s at the ready, it’s going to be fun!!!

New Community Development Worker
(Healthy North East Derbyshire)
Lynn Ludditt replaces Nick Jewkes as
the new Community Development
Worker for Healthy North East
Derbyshire, funded from locality
public health monies.
Lynn will initially be working in
Holmewood and Heath and is keen to
promote local activities in the
community, as well as encouraging
residents to adopt healthier lifestyles
and signposting them to relevant
support services. One of her main
areas of focus will be to support the
Community Health Champions Team.
Lynn said, “Community Health
Champions are volunteers who make a
real difference to the community by
encouraging and motivating others –
friends, family, and neighbours – to get
involved in social activities that are
enjoyable, fun and which embrace
positive health and well-being. We
currently have a small core team of
valued CHCs but would love more local
people to join us.
All CHCs will be issued with a training
pack, diary and health and well-being
related ‘freebies’; and an ID badge with
their photo/name and Community
Health Champion
shown. On the
reverse is a
number that
residents can
call to confirm
that the badge
holder is a
legitimate
member of the
Holmewood &
Lynn Ludditt
Heath
Community Health Champions Network.
More about this in a future edition.
A ‘Getting to Know You’ day for existing
and new CHCs will be held in July and
will be promoted throughout the
community so if you enjoy helping
people, sharing information, enjoy
keeping active through hobbies,
interests, sports etc and have at least
one hour a month to spare then why not
come along? Refreshments will be
provided and everyone will be made
very welcome!”
If you’d like to know more, Lynn would
love to hear from you. She can be
