AirWatch: Does it measure particles or what?
CSIRO’s contribution to the educational and community AirWatch program included a
‘filter soiling’ technique for measuring airborne particle concentrations. The results show
good agreement with the sophisticated measurements of elemental carbon.

The regulation of geoengineering: A gathering storm for international climate change
policy?
Over the past decade geoengineering has steadily built momentum in academic and policy
circles as a potential response to the risk of rapid climate change. However, there are many
considerable risks associated with geoengineering, including damage to environmental
and social systems. An international agreement should be urgently established to regulate
decisions regarding the testing and use of geoengineering.

Air pollution trends in four Australian cities 1996–2011
This study examined the long-term trends in four air pollutants in Australia’s four largest
cities between 1996 and 2011. There were long-term improvements in carbon monoxide
and sulfur dioxide. Particulate matter levels (PM10) remained relatively constant. Ozone
levels increased in all four cities when including the influence of temperature, and levels
are predicted to increase further because of climate change.

Correction
In the article by Morrow and Dustan, Effects of atmospheric deposition, the
rainwater delivery system and in-tank processes on roof-harvested rainwater
quality, published in the August 2012 issue of Air Quality and Climate Change
(pp 22-27), the element concentration units listed for the bottom half of Tables
1, 2 and 3 were described incorrectly. These units should have read “ng L-1”
rather than “μg L-1”. The error occurred in proofreading.
