Up against some 2,500 pupils from across the country, every boy in Priory took part in the 2017 SATIPS General Knowledge
Challenge. Both the Junior and Senior Challenges consisted of one hundred general knowledge topics, and the highest five
marks from each school went towards their final score. Our top five performances in the Senior Challenge (Years 7 & 8) were
Kalyan (9th, 67pts), Cian (10th, 66pts), Finn (20th=, 63pts), Oliver (25th=, 61pts) and Sne (33rd=, 60pts). Totalled, these boys
enabled us as a team to come third out of forty schools. We went one better in the Junior Challenge, and out of 58 schools,
we came second. Our top five boys were Joshua (7th, 79pts), Tait (11th, 77pts), Guillaume and Ryder (both 27th=, 74 pts),
and Nathan (30th, 73pts). Many congratulations to those ten boys, but a special mention must also go Theodore,Thomas, Max,
Liam, Rory, Henry and Henry, all of whom got a special mention for coming in the top fifty and will also receive a prize.

On Monday 27 February 11 hockey players and two members
of staff made their way over to Tonbridge School to play in the
IAPS South U13 Hockey tournament. The early morning fixtures
caught King’s half asleep, and although fixtures were tight, results
didn’t go the way King’s wanted, all be it against prep schools with
strong hockey reputations. Following the lunch interval and a rain
break King’s found themselves playing in the Vase competition and
immediately into knock-out hockey. After a tense 0-0 draw penalty strokes awaited; the intrepid trio of James, Lucas and Alessio
stepped up to the spot with Cian in goal. An eventual 9-8 win to
King’s saw the U13 hockey team progress. From this point on the
team played champagne hockey, moving the ball at speed using the
space available on the pitch and finishing with precision. The semifinal was won 2-0 with Rhys and Matty on the score sheet and the
Final beckoned. King’s played fantastic hockey, the improvement
through-out the day was evident for all to see, and ran out winners by 4-1. James starred in the final scoring 3 goals.

Our week in sport began with some very tough, but
closely contested fixtures versus St Paul’s last Saturday morning at Kingsway. The A and B teams almost
claimed two very good victories but holding on to a
lead can be difficult when similar schools clash. The Ds
flew the flag for the school with a great 1-0 win under
the temporary stewardship of Mr Moore. All of Transition made the short journey to Shrewsbury House
on Tuesday for A-H tag rugby matches in the sunshine
on their astro-turf. A try-fest ensued for both schools
with some particularly excellent passing rugby from
the KCJS boys. That afternoon saw Bs, Cs, and Fs from
the Third Form battle it out over in Teddington against
Newland House, with our Fs putting up a great fight
at one stage versus the host’s C team! Going down
only 30-15 is a great indicator of how strong this year
group is – strength in depth comes to mind. Thursday
was easily the busiest day thus far in any week or term
for that matter, this academic year; U9 rugby away at
o u c h l i n e
Cranmore; U12 football up against Wimbledon
College; cross-country at the picturesque Claremont Fan Court – all happening whilst the U11
rugby squads received a kicking masterclass from
Mr Gibson and Mr Baggs of the Senior School. To
have so many Junior School boys out competing
across a variety of sports was fantastic to see and
something we will continue to strive for. The U12
football was a real success with many close results
– the As and Bs gaining wins, and the Ds and Es
battling out super draws in what is always a great
local derby.
Word of the week:
recusant – “someone who refuses to submit to authority”
From the Latin recuso (= “I refuse”)
I’ve never met such a recusant as Johnny, moaned his form teacher.
