Baroque and Beyond
about consortium
aurora borealis
Founded in 1979 by Artistic Director
Elizabeth Ganiatsos, Consortium Aurora
Borealis performs repertoire primarily
from the Renaissance and Baroque eras,
with occasional forays into the Mediaeval,
Classical and Early Romantic eras. High
artistic standards, varied and exciting
programming, and historically-themed
concerts with authentic instruments add
to the dynamic presence of Northwestern
Ontario’s only early music group.
Local professional soloists and chamber
ensembles, both vocal and instrumental,
join with distinguished guest artists in six
concerts each season, presented in the
acoustically excellent St. Paul’s United
Church, one of the city’s heritage buildings.
A reasonable admission price makes
these concerts accessible to everyone.
Consortium Aurora Borealis has
maintained a vigorous presence in Thunder
Bay for thirty-four years. It has been hailed
with great enthusiasm by audience and
press alike, and continues with its mission
to educate as well as to entertain.
