Council Meeting Item 2.4 Attachment 6 Monday, 28 May, 2012 MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD – MONDAY, 26 SEPTEMBER, 2011 Presentations (Cont’d) Shire Smart-Phone App Mr. Greg Brough, Business Systems Analyst provided a presentation on the Shire Smart-Phone App. A proof of concept trial was initiated in February 2011 to examine the concept of an organisation based Smart-Phone App and to build a working trial. Mobile technology is transforming the way our communities communicate. The Smart-Phone App project is an exciting initiative to provide a completely new business channel for our community to access Shire services and information. This project is the start of a new way of engaging with our community and positions us as a leader within the Government sector. The trial seeks to: Show than an organisation based app is possible as opposed to a single functional app; Show that it is possible to provide a superior interface directly into the Shire’s systems; and Show that there is sufficient interest to take the concept further and establish a new Shire service. It is proposed to bring the trial outcomes to the ICT Steering Committee later this year and to establish an e-team with the aim of taking the project further towards a staff/friends trial. Naming of Shaw McKeown Reserve – Atunga Terrace/Edith Place, Dromana The Mayor, Cr. Graham Pittock provided a presentation on the recently named Shaw McKeown Reserve in Dromana. Coinciding with the 150th celebrations of Dromana, it seemed appropriate to acknowledge two of Dromana’s pioneering families and the naming of the reserve in their honour. Vale – Mr. Ted (Edward) Harris Cr. Reade Smith acknowledged the passing of Mr. Ted Harris with the following tribute: “ Sadly, on Wednesday, 21 September, 2011 the inaugural and longest serving member and former President of the Friends of Warringine Park, Ted Harris, passed away after a short illness. Ted had been diagnosed with brain cancer many years ago and battled the illness for a long time. Ted was a very active member of the community and a volunteer in many places across the Peninsula. Apart from his dedication to Warringine, he was also a member of the Friends of Snowgums and a volunteer at Sages Cottage. He was always on the job weeding at Baxter Park and along the old Baxter Railway Line. In fact, his wife Beryl often called herself the Weed Widow, because he was so often out weeding to help restore and protect indigenous vegetation on the Peninsula, that she rarely saw him.” Mornington Peninsula Shire Council 2 Council Meeting Item 2.4 Attachment 6 Monday, 28 May, 2012 MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD – MONDAY, 10 OCTOBER, 2011 REPORT TO Council Meeting ITEM NO. 2.14 MEETING DATE Monday, 10 October, 2011 SUBJECT Documents for Sealing PREPARED BY AUTHORISED BY Kylie Osborne, Assistant to Manager – Governance and Corporate Support Manager – Governance and Corporate Support FILE NO. 11-010792 ATTACHMENT(S) NO Addendum – Additional Report Circulated Monday, 3 October, 2011 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The documents listed in the schedule below are presented to Council for Sealing. Sealing No. File No. 28/11 qA179552 29/11 qA167742 Schedule Document Description Letter under Seal – Mr. Dick Cox, Project Manager, 3RPP Community Radio Relocation Project Letter under Seal – Mr. Ted (Edwin) Harris, inaugural and longest serving member of the Friends of Warringine Park DISCUSSION Sealing No. 28/11 In early 2009 it became apparent that 3RPP had to find a new home to be able to continue to broadcast on the Mornington Peninsula. Having identified the classrooms adjacent to Peninsula Community Theatre as an ideal location, Mr. Cox was able to gain the support of the Rotary Peninsula Cluster colleagues to approach the Council seeking a partnership to start the project. Over the past two years, Mr. Cox never waivered in his enthusiasm to see this project realised with the support of the Shire, Peninsula Rotary clubs, the committee and members of 3RPP and the general community. His efforts, from the initial planning stages including the architectural drawings and building specifications, seeking donations and in-kind support, sourcing of labour and materials, through to the completion of the project, have been outstanding, and a great example of true community spirit. The Letter under Seal was presented to Mr. Cox at the official launch of the community radio station 3RPP new facilities on Saturday, 24 September, 2011. Sincerely, GillianCollins Secretary Council Meeting Monday, 28 May, 2012 Item 2.4 Attachment 6 Matt Tetteroo Park Ranger FrankstonCity Council Ted Harris worked tirelessly in the Baxter Equestrian Centre bushland for over ten years. Over this time he single handedly attacked all weeds with a minimum of fuss and disturbance. No weed was too big or widespread for this one man weeding machine. I often thought how good it would be to have a team of Teds working in all our reserves. Ted’s dedication to our indigenous bushland was above reproach. Rain, hail or shine he would be out there, hand weeding, frilling & filling or spraying. Ted’s knowledge of plants and the bush was largely self taught, and he never stopped learning. Even though he was just a one man ‘Friend’s Group’, he was the best I ever had. Meeting Ted onsite out at Baxter was often the highlight of my day, even if the actual finding of the man took a little time when he was head down, busy weeding in one of his self identified re-generation sites. Ted had a knack for seeing the potential of a site and returning the area to a virtually weed-free standard. Ted never missed a weed when it was flowering, nailing it before they went to seed. Ted will be sadly missed, not just by me, but by the whole Frankston Natural Reserves team, and especially by Baxter Park, where he is irreplaceable, but his memory shall live on in the great works that he did. Ted, I miss you greatly my friend, Baxter is not the same without you. Matt Tetteroo. Council Meeting Monday, 28 May, 2012 Item 2.4 Attachment 6 Dear Ted, I miss him a lot. There's a big hole in the Friends group now that he's not around any more. I first joined the Friends group in early 2004,looking for a way to improve my knowledge of indig.plants.
