Literacy Intervention System (LIS)
Hopscotch is comprised of the El Sistema de la Intervención de Lectura (SIL) program
along with the English program, Literacy Intervention System (LIS). SIL and LIS are
intensive, Reading Recovery–based intervention programs designed by intervention
specialists to help struggling Kindergarten, first-grade and second-grade students
develop independent reading and writing strategies. � This intervention program was originally written in Spanish, not translated
or adapted from English, providing an authentic program for
Spanish-speaking students. � LIS and SIL utilize the Hopscotch books, which feature real-life, culturally
relevant content and photos that children can relate to. � The Spanish Hopscotch titles were independently leveled
to ensure they are a good fit for students. � Available in 6-week or 9-week programs.

academic intervention teachers in
Houston, Texas. They are fluent in
English and Spanish and trained in
Descrubiendo la Lectura.
Donna has an MEd in Curriculum
and Instruction and over 17 years’
experience working with at-risk
students in reading and writing. She
is fluent in English and Spanish.
