Overview of the approach for Road
detection from satellite images
Satellite image is processed in four stages:
• First stage: Edge map is obtained from satellite image using
1-D processing
• Second stage: Edge map is post-processed using a set of
binary morphological operations
• Third stage: Linear and curvilinear segments are
extracted using a GMM based extractor from the edge map
• Final stage: A FFNN is used to detect road segments from
GMM based extractor output
